View Full Version : Man Law meeting

I call to order this meeting of men. I would like to at this point make a suggestion with the hopes of creating a new Man Law.
On this day 3 November 2006, I BeauxGeezy come to you with the following proposal:
Anyone that claims to be a former coach, former player or person affiliated with a team must give us credentials or proof that they are what they claim to be.
Now there will be those that say this information should remain confidential. To those people I say shut up and turn in your man card.
If the information is so top secret and confidential......then why would a person bring it into conversations on a public forum?
The minute you start using this "alleged" inside knowledge as a way of winning over opinions of others....that information stops being private.
In other words...If you don't want us to know who you are then you shouldn't spout off about being said coach, former player or person affiliated with a team. You should just give your opinion and leave it at that.
Otherwise this men's council will be forced to call bulls..t on your "alleged" inside knowledge.
So I propose to you that from this day forth:
Anyone who does this without providing proof or some sort of credentials will be called out and subsequently charged with violating a Man Law.
All of those in favor please post accordingly.
Those opposed please turn in your man card and this council will meet later to review your status.

I'm for it - but I do know for an absolute fact that G-man was the Welding Coach at Dip n' Spit High for at least three years. Not sure why he's not proud of that fact - but I'll speak up for him.
You can't coach good arc welding - it's a gift from God.

And were this a welding message board he would have a valid gripe. It isn't one though...so he will not be recognized as a coach until he gives proof.

So basically if you do not produce your membership card to the THSCA, a picture of you playing at one time or yearbook picture, then you are just giving a worthless opinion.

Maybe I should revise the proposal.
The Men's coucil will give you the benefit of the doubt in terms of playing HS sports. Not many people would lie about such a thing. Accomplishments? maybe...but not playing.
I was thinking more along the lines of a major D1 school...or coaching at a HS,college or even pro level.
Props to The Dude for stepping up.

thanks - that seemed like a shame to me, but I didn't know him that well, but I did think he was instrumental in getting Reggie over the top in '01 - a good OC IMO - best to you and your's.

From what I heard about him from the players that are there is he was a great guy and extremely smart about the game of football. However, wasn't fit for a HEAD coach, let players do what they wanted and didn't instill too much discipline. Would've loved to meet him though, I have a lot repsect for Lufkin. He tried to mock the Lufkin program and turn Willis into it. Their helmets and shirts and hats and all that had the identical Lufkin logo of the cursive written "pack", but said "kats." Being purple helps also

Again...
A revised version is in the works. We are not questioning HS players. You will be given a pass on that. We are strictly talking about "alleged" coaches, former D1 players, and persons affiliated with the team other than fan, band, cheerleader, etc.
slorch
11-03-2006, 12:51 PM
I want a by-law that states:
The merit of your argument shall be based on facts and reasonable thoughts/ opinions. The playing of the "I'm a former coach/ player" card, while possibly adding credibility, neither proves, nor disproves said position in the argument. If the IFCoP card is played in an attempt to intimidate, bully, or otherwise wiggle out of an argument, the owner shall be stripped of his/ her Man Law Rights.

Most of you guys won't even own up to who you really are anyway, what difference does your "cred" statements make? Internet forums are the great bastion of camouflage. You can say what you want with virtually no recourse. Do any of you really take any of this too seriously?
I post my photo up here and have given out my name and website numerous times. It forces me to do a couple of things.
1. Be polite to others.
2. Be respectful to others.
3. Be accountable for what I say.
Sort of like real life, huh? Oops, wait. This is an internet BS board. A virtual free for all with no consequences.
How about a man law about fessing up your identity first? Many of you have done this and guess what... for the most part you are among the most respectful people on this or any forum. The trash talker opinions are not listened to anyway. So, I guess none of this, including my post here, really matter much.
Peace out and have fun tonight if you're playin' or spectatin'! Friday nights with crisp weather are reasons to give thanks if you ask me.

We could all post our photos as our profile pics or avatars...that would be cool. We had that off-topic name-pic thread-gone-wrong in attempt to jokingly put a face to the names. It would be nice to see the real faces.

Not taking the bait on this one, guys. There's more to compromise than one would think. It's totally on you guys, whether you do or don't believe me. Honestly, who cares? If you feel I'm credible and/or believe my arguments, great. If not, oh well. No sweat off anyones back. Guys, it's just a message board. Something that keeps us enthused about the game. Sports interaction. Nothing more. (IMO)
Funny post, though. BeauxGeezy, you crazyass sumb!tch, you!:D :p

you "coaching from the top row", and me actually being at practice and games coaching and directing the strength and conditioning program is a huge difference. I don't understand what rubs you so wrong about what I did and it being deemed illegal by the UIL. Obviously you don't support it because it was illegal, but it's one thing to do it knowing it's not allowed, but to have no idea, and stop as soon as you are informed, doesn't seem so bad to me.
My apologies for trying to get some experience and get a better job out of college while doing something I absolutely love, Coach Owl.
But anywho, I'll leave it at that and any reponse you give won't be acknowledged untill Sunday night. I have to wake up here in about 4 hours to make a 5 hour trip for my visit to Howard Payne University, not quite sure how I'm going to pull this off.

Friday nights with crisp weather are reasons to give thanks if you ask me.
the people that i know who read this, know its me, so im not hiding anything. some parnets, friends, etc, have asked me if im "me", and told it was..
plus, how many kids in band, that play alto sax, fan of the bears and cubs, and always wears an Illiniois Fighting Illini hat? um...nobody, besides me...
so if i was hiding something, i could just make up a team, say im some star qb, etc

Their helmets and shirts and hats and all that had the identical Lufkin logo of the cursive written "pack", but said "kats." Being purple helps also
What a lot of people don't realize, is it takes time to instill discipline in a program. In John Outlaw's early days here in Lufkin, he was the hard nosed in your face coach. Today, not so much.
He doesn't have to be anymore. His program is established. The kids learn from the first day of 7th grade practice what is expected of them.
During the early Outlaw days, he sent a long time assistant to the MS to weed out the trouble makers and others who didn't "pack the gear".
To make a long story short, discipline has to be instilled from day one. Otherwise, a coach is doomed to fail.

Good thread! It's man law. I never throw around my opinions on football with much weight anyway. I never played or coached but I did coach a lot of Little League baseball including managing a 14 yr old Tournament team. Now you see why I'm on this board for fun and entertainment plus trying to absorb as much as possible from the 'Knowledgeable' ones. But, I have been watching football since 1966. That has to count for something.
Did you coach, Wide??

I know of a couple of coaches on this board, and there is no way they will follow the man law rule. I would say to just give them a court date and ticket. If you do not believe the ones that say they are a coach, then don't. Honestly, I must have missed anyone saying they were or were not a coach. I can tell you that there are coaches that do not know anymore about 5A texas football than anyone else here. Some might be at 1A schools, and have yet to see a 5A game. There are even some that do not know much about football at all to be real honest. Anyone can be a coach. Just go to college, graduate, and apply for the job. If one of these "real" coaches that are on this board were to give out their info, their job could be on the line for speaking their mind. They deserve the freedom to post and have fun also, right? You might think this sounds crazy, but I do know of a certain coach that lost his job due to some stuff he said to someone else in a private yahoo e-mail. Maybe these guys just want to post, but I agree, they should just keep it to themselves that they are a coach and not use this to try to prove their opinion. I once heard a man law had already been established within the coaches community. It was to not give info about where you coach on message boards. Many head coaches have created this "man law" already. I think their boss's man law comes first. However, this was a very funny topic. I was cracking up reading it.

Oh yea, I forgot to ask.... Did any of your coaches tell you guys to stay off these boards when you were playing football? There were not near as many when I was playing, but another member of our team went off on some people, and gave out his name one week. I do know that he was running his *** off, and everyone was told to never give out their name, #, etc. if they were going to post on the boards. Oh yea, did I mention that the guy was busted by the coaching staff at lunch! Wow, real coaches do get on these boards. Anyway, just wondering if we were the only ones told this.

I played for Bell from 2003-2005. My senior year I got a concussion and broke 2 fingers during the preseason but kept my mouth shut from our athletic trainers. No way in hell I was going to miss anything in my senior year. I sucked it up throughout the year and after the season I went to the doctor. I am still undergoing rehab from my concussion today. My broken fingers are permanently jammed out of place for life.
But it was worth it.

If they say it...........then they have to back it up. Otherwise keep it to yourself.
But, if someone asks, "are you a coach", and they say, "yes", there is no reason to have to back it up.
But, if they say, "I know everything there is to know about football because I coach", then I agree, back it up.
But then again, they would be breaking the coaches pre-established "man law".
Damn laws are too confusing.. I give up.. I did like the post, and it should be fun until some dip stick gets it locked up.

Ten minutes of class spent writing a little FOR-NEXT loop that counted to a hundred...and calculated the square root of each number...
Twenty minutes marking the cards...
Ten more minutes standing in line to run the cards...
Ten more minutes finding and fixing the cards that were mismarked...
Class over...

Sounds like all that stuff will come in handy today! When I was in high school, the internet was just getting hot. Dial up was fast to us at the time. When I got to college, they had high speed in one of the labs. I spend about 8 hours in there one day. It was amazing.
