What was the drug in his system? Adderall, a medication (that my brother is on) used to treat Attention Defecate Disorder. For this, he gets a two year suspension. Are you kidding me? They're banning players for taking medications prescribed by doctors to combat diagnosed and clinically recognized disorders?

Maybe they don't have ADD in Europe. That's pretty crazy to think though because my brother has ADD and he takes something like that.
I don't believe ADD is a real disorder and apparently neither do the Europeans. It's a cop out for kids who can't concentrate so the doctor gives them a pill.

lol, i live with someone and I don't believe it. There are so many days when my brother misses his medication and you can barely tell. You used to be able to tell at first and I think he mostly used it as an excuse. It's all mental. Back in the day they never had ADD. You were just a problem child.

^^ comments like that make it OK for kids to act the way they do and use ADD/ADHS is an excuse. Treat them like you would a normal kid and refuse to tolerate ADD/ADHD and it will magically disappear...
I've looked them up and dealt with people who supposedly have them all through my education.
If I put a gun in the face of a kid who claims to have ADD/ADHD and told them to sit down and do their work or I'd kill them I guarantee you they would sit their a$$ down, concentrate, and do their work.
It's all about choice and self control, kids who claim to have these 'disorders' just lack both of those.
Schizophrenia is a disorder ADD is not.

roflmfao!!!! (and I may have peed my pants  )
Both of my boys take meds for aDd. However, neither is on amphetamines now. When the Dr. first suggested Dexedrine for my oldest, I just stared at him and asked if that was a "black molly?" He was much older than this 70's girl and did not know what the he#& I was talking 'bout. Black mollies were street slang for dexies back in the day. Putting your kid on drugs you used to see sold at the pool hall was not a step taken lightly. If this player needs drugs for ADD, there are now non-stimulant alternatives that work. I hope he gets them and then appeals the decision. They key will be treatment and doctors to back him up.
thanks for the laugh, guys.

They said our son had it.
i refused to put him on meds.
We cleaned up his diet and got him involved in football. He wants to focus now, because if he doesn't, his priviledges are gone.
It can also be cured with a belt, but I know that is passe now.

Some can be cured with medication. Some cannot. I saw all the proof I needed. My brother was diagnosed mid-way through his 3rd grade year. Prior to that he had never made higher than a B in school and was in constant trouble. After that, he was a straight A student and never once had a discipline problem all the way through high school. My brother went from having trouble putting together a 100 piece puzzle to being an award winning violinist and artist.
The disorder was "over-diagnosed" a lot early on. Every teacher who had to repeat his/herself to a student was suggesting the student be tested for ADD. However, testing has become far more advanced and the diagnosing problems of 10 years ago are almost non-existent now. There is simply no question that it is a disorder and the current test procedures make it difficult if not impossible to fake.

Everybody is different. To say that it can be cured with a belt is grossly misleading and in many cases flat wrong. My brother was certainly no stranger to the belt. My Dad was a fairly strict disciplinarian who never shied away from taking his belt off and putting us over his knee, but he just couldn't do anything with my brother. There simply was no punishment strong enough to deter his behavior. That is when my parents took him to a doctor who ran some tests and diagnosed him with ADHD.

Wow, my son also plays Violin and now makes good grades. Our "bad" year was second grade. My youngest had his watershed year in 4th grade. Started the meds and have never looked back. Amazing what can be accomplished with treatment, huh?
We wouldn't want to tell all these folks with allergies to just live with them, would we?

You can't compare allergies and ADD that is ridiculous. One is a foreign object that invades your body another is a so-called disorder.
Is your son going to grow out of his ADD or do you expect him to take pills all of his life? You fueled the fire by giving him those meds.

i agree with you( can't dispute hard evidence there, right?) We just felt like the MD's made the "easy" diagnosis, and we went with our gut. It's amazing how you described the results your brother got, because before this year Shelby always made b's and c's. This year is his first year of football, he brought home his report card 2 Fridays ago- lowest grade 94. we are so excited.
i am glad your bro was able to deal with his situation also. Your family's support is just as big as any meds he got.

I guess you missed the point. An allergic reaction is what happens when YOUR body produces too many histamines in reaction to the things in the air that don't cause that reaction in most of us. Ergo, it doesn't happen to most people so it must be, i don't know, all in their heads? Of course not.
Actually, I was advised to give my son medication when he was only TWO years old and at that time, said NO!!! He did not have problems that would get him diagnosed as "mentally deficient" until 2d grade. BTW, he was in special education in the public school since age 3. My son was never "hyperactive" he just could not concentrate at all. We have been through every specialist available to us. Bottom line, he has other problems which I will not display publicly but the only medication he is currently taking is Strattera, an ADD drug.
You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. When you have kids, they will break your heart. You mend it (and theirs) any way you can.

Your comparing a thief to a child with a clinically diagnosed disorder is frankly quite upsetting. I feel like going angry emu on that, but I have learned that ignorance is a disorder for which there is no cure.
BTW, as CoveMom said, allergies are not the foreign object... they are the reaction to the foreign object. I can drive through Lubbock with no problems. My Dad gets within 30 miles of Lubbock and he is sneezing a lung. Everybody is different. Just because one kid can calm down after getting his butt whipped, doesn't mean every kid will do the same. To even suggest such a thing is the highest form of ignorance.

Not that far back. I mean it was only just founded recently. I'm just saying, maybe this is becoming something like depression where some people can control it yet I know that not everybody can. Maybe it is used as an excuse too many times.

80% of add/adhd cases arent cases at all, but behavior problems that need to be corrected the old fashioned way. i was diagnosed with add in 2nd grade, when given the choice of straightening up or getting the strap every time i screwed up in mrs. orr's class, you better believe my *** sat silent and stiff as a dead man in my desk.
