View Full Version : Is Aaron Ross playing himself into the first round?

if he is, then Texas's 2005 secondary will have had 5 NFL players including atleast 2 or 3 first rounders(Huff, Michael Griffin, Ross) a third round pick (C. Griffin) and I am not sure where Terrel Brown will go, but he will be in the NFL

Aaron Ross is just absolutely flat out good. And I would not be surprised if he does go in the first round. Add his name to the list with Vasher,Huff and Jammer...

Ross will be a first rounder due to his performance this year, and also because of his ability on special teams (coverage and return).
Texas is the new DB U right now. Vasher, Huff, Jammer, etc. will only increase the stock.
Michael Griffin needs to step it up to hold his first round status, or he'll drop to 2nd. He's blown a few coverages this year, and missed a big tackle against Neb.

I thought it was Marcus that missed the tackle?
Oh wait...it was Marcus with that dumb personal foul when the guy fell down in front of him.

Michael Griffin is a lot like Evil Roy Williams in that he is much, much better in run support than he is in pass coverage. Fortunately for Michael, he is not near as bad in pass coverage as Evil Roy Williams. One of the reasons Michael was so good last year was because he had Huff next to him who was tremendous against the pass. Griffin at SS on a team with a good FS = domination.
All three senior DBs at Texas will be first day draft picks and they could all go in the first 2 rounds. They all have what the NFL is infatuated with... size. Not to mention great speed. Ross goes about 6'1 195, Brown is about 6'0 200 and Griffin is about 6'0 205 and they probably all run a sub-4.5. Brown was actually the speed guy of them at one point. He ran a legit 4.32 coming out of high school so I won't be a bit surprised to see him run a sub-4.4 for scouts (assuming his toe injury is healed).

It's a matter of need, as you only have 32 selections.
There's probably 10-12 teams (5-6 definite) that could be looking to bolster their QB depth, in the 1st Rnd. Depending, of course, if certain players opt to leave early. (I.E...Brohm, Russell, Longshore etc.) Obviously, Quinn, Stanton, Kolb, Palko and a few others are considered for a 1st Rnd. selection.
There's probably 6-7 teams that could be looking to bolster their RB depth, in the 1st Rnd. This years class could be fairly deep...Peterson, Irons, Bush, Lynch, Slaton, Wolfe, Hart, Pittman, etc. (Obviously, some of these players would have to opt to leave early.)
There's probably 13-14 teams that could be looking to bolster their WR depth, in the 1st Rnd. This years class definitely has the potential to be stronger than any in recent memory...C. Johnson, Jarrett, Samardziji, Hill, Ginn Jr., Filani, Hicks, S. Rice, etc. (Obviously, some of these players would have to opt to leave early.)
Accompanied by 1st Rnd definites like OT- Joe Thomas, DE - Gaines Adams, S - Laron Landry, OT - Jake Long, OT - Sam Baker, OG - Justin Blalock, CB - Daymeion Hughes, CB - Leon Hall, LB - H.B. Blades, DE - Quentin Moses and S - Brandon Merriweather...Aaron Ross might just miss out. He's having one hell of a season, no doubt, and could wind up stealing a 1st Rnd spot if he finishes with great games in the A&M Rival game, Big XII Champ. and whatever Bowl game Texas will play in. I like the kid.
Also, there's a few other players that may be playing their way into the 1st Rnd, so far this season, LaMarr Woodley - DE (Mich), Quinn Pitcok - DT (OSU), Buster Davis - LB (FSU), Rufus Alexander - LB (OU), Marcus McCauley - CB (FS) and Aaron Rouse - SS (VT).
We'll see.

I will tell you this, if Peterson opts to come out early he'll have, at least, 8-10 teams that will have him as their #1 Overall Draft Pick. I spoke to an NFL source (Coach) yesterday night and he informed me that there is several teams that have been drooling over him since he was a freshman. And you guys would be very surprised to know which teams he named. (Can't say, though.) ;)
We'll see what he does, but the opportunity to make "Mega-Bucks" are there, if he wants it.

Yap...those Houston Texans. I think they'll do ok (with Kubiak on board), but they certainly have had horrible selections, for the most part.

Ross and Griffin are both 1st or 2nd round draft picks.
T. Brown might be a late 1st day pick or early 2nd day pick. T.Brown little police run-in the week of the Ohio St game didnt help his draft stock.

if ross goes first round i want be surprised. this a guy who i thought when he was in highscool at tyler jont tyler, was the best cover corner i have ever seen. his senior year he had a good game every game it seemed like. atleast until he played against katy in the 2000 d-2 state championship game. he gave up his first td reception and then had a muffed punt that helped katy seal the game.

Slighest possibility of the 1st Rnd for both athletes, for different reasons. Ross is, just now, beginning to play himself into the 1st or early 2nd Rnd (this season), while Griffin has slipped and is now fighting to hold onto a late 1st Rnd or 2nd Rnd selection.
2nd Rnd seems definite for both athletes, however. (IMO) The NFL Draft is very tricky. Anything can happen, between now and April. It's quite an experience.

I'm sure he well. He has the size/speed ratio that NFL scouts covet. But, he'll have that little 3am "gun-in-the-lap" problem on the same week of the biggest game of the year for Texas (Ohio St) that will be looked at very heavy by all the NFL managers and Scouts.
Ie. "Hey son what's your deal riding around at 3am with a gun in your lap on the same week your playing the #1 team in the nation ??" Hmmmmm....
That's going go cost T. Brown about $300,000-$500,000 in NFL draft money (IMO). That hurts a lot more then the "tazer gun" he got lit-up with by the Police.

I think both Ross & Griff. are for sure 2nd rd picks.
I think the biggest problem so far this season for Mike Griffin is that he is trying to cover-more space and the loss of Huff & Cedric Griffin hurts him more this season then Ross at Cb.
I do think Michael Griffin has Michael Dawkins (Philly Eagles) caliber skills.
ps. It wouldnt surprise me however it both of them end up in the 1st rd either.

your probably right... I say he gets drafted 27th-last pick in 3rd round....

I wouldnt be surprised at that. Sounds like a logical spot if someone needs at solid CB & athlete for special teams for a couple of seasons until he earns his NFL wings.
I'll say late 3rd or somewhere in the 4th.

Michael Griffin is playing out of position this year. It is very obvious, but it is something he has to do. I have to think the NFL knows this as well and will take it into consideration. As far as strong safeties so, Griffin is #1 or #2 in this coming draft.
