Rockets beat Laredo Nixon 63-14. Ground attack is still intact, but Rockets went to the air more in the 1st game than any over the last 25 years. Success both ways. Although Nixon kids played hard, they were just outmatched. Look for them to make the playoffs for the 5th year in a row.

Why'd we give up 14 points? I wanted and expected a shutout.

Lonny,

It was 63-0 at the start of the 4th. Laredo kept airing it out. Threw the ball a total of 49 times and completed some long balls against 3rd string secondary.
Judson suprised me tonight. The offense looked fairly polished for the first game of the season. Maybe Laredo is real, real bad. Or maybe not. I think our tailback and QB situation is going to be just fine. And the kicking game was better than I expected, although Judson did not punt that I saw, the kickoffs were very deep and overall looked pretty good. The D looks as promising as last years unit. We will know more at this time next week.

It's not like we love playing Nixon. We didn't have 10 games last season so we picked them up on week zero. Besides that, Laredo Nixon is a playoff team, they just can't hang with teams out of their region.

Also, did anyone notice the scoreboard. It didn't work properly. During the 1st quarter, it said Quarter 9. All we had was the score, the period, the time, and the yards to go thing. Our Marquee (if thats what its called) didn't work. The loud speakers need a lot of attention, because they kept breaking in and out.

Judson has a hard enough time getting teams to schedule them pre-district. That is why they schedule Waco, Cove, Westfield etc.

If we lined up Nixon and Southwest today Nixon would win by 14 points possibly more. Nixon is not a bad football team and am sure the folks over at Judson would like not o play them, but when you can't find anyone to play you what are you going to do.

I got down here and saw the paper. A 3rd stringer getting close to 200 is good. Nixon might not be as good as before, but they probably still go 3 games deep in the playoffs. You can probably count on 1 hand the number of 5A teams who've played more games than Nixon in the last 5 years. They aren't great, but you have to respect them. The win had more to do what Judson can do than it did about what Nixon can't do. Nixon is better than Southwest, but they aren't as good as the best SA teams. Playing SA is what helps them run the table in district every year.

Who was the rb who sprained his ankle. I think it was #44. He started the game correct?

yes Kevin Taylor, hes the Better vision power runner, Mcdaniel is he seed and by spped i mean he is faster then fox....hes the kid that broke his leg againt nbixon last season. Kevin will get most of the carries but Mcdaniel is a TD threat hes just so fast. They will use them both to make LB's have headaches.

I thought I remembered when he broke his leg vs. Nixon last year the coaches saying he was the fastest player on the team. Is that true? That is saying something with Fox, B Williams, and D Williams on that team. He displayed very good speed Friday night. If they take care of the ball (no turnovers) next week vs. Cove, Judson should win the game.

McDaniels is not the one who broke his leg versus Nixon last year. That was Demetri Adams (spell check?), who is no longer on the team. McDaniels is very fast though.
