why do ppl complain when someone talks about band or cheerleaders in the main statewide board? the off topic discussion is for random things like whos the biggest homer or something...

I think it depends on the context of the topic.

Not if it pertains to the game or the atmosphere of the game.

A topic about UIL marching bands deserves to be in the off topic, but a topic about bands/cheerleaders pumping out the crowd shouldn't be in off topic.

If the cheerleaders are pumping out the crowd...you've got big problems.

If it's within the context of whether or not those support units either contribute to or detract from the team effort on the football field, then it most certainly is on topic. The band, cheerleaders, dance teams and fans in the stands should be functioning as a synergistic whole while the game is being played.

I think they are more for the crowd and entertainment then for the players.

I only said that because there is a thread about how cheerleaders CAN'T pump up the crowd.

lets see...band kids are probally the most supportive of the football team (at least at carroll) first there, last to leave...heck the football team is gone before i even leave, on home games.. (though they are there earlier)

and band is part of HS football..thus they go together, end of story

New poll: should words like "synergistic" be moved to off topic boards?;)

Nope. If they don't know what it means, it will do them good to look it up. :D

We are so fortunate that the KT bros. devote so much of their time running the show here. I haven't see them once hesitate to lock a thread, ban a poster, or move a thread. I have no complaints about this rodeo and the way it is being run.

Agree! also---band members who attend games also bring enthusiastic ticket-buying, snack-buying, program-buying, T-shirt/sweat-shirt buying siblings and band parents to the game, as well.

Without the band, it would make for a boring game (Unless your band is sorry)!

Whoa........sorry........in my group, we never even know the band is there, except at halftime, and then we don't notice them unless they play so loud we can't talk about the first half of the game.

Yes, the music is nice, but it has no effect on my enjoyment of the experience.

I come to see football, not band. The band parents and some reluctant wives come to see band.

No, I'm not a ignorant redneck who doesn't understand the arts. I took 7 years of piano lessons, played drums in a local band, and sang in the A Capella choir from 7th grade on through HS, and have sung in the church choir, off and on, for 36 years. I LIKE BAND.

It just isn't why I go to games, by a long shot.

BTW, if it is pertinent to HS football, the threads should be on main page. If it is general talk about band, it should be in off-topic.

I mean, if I see a fight at a game, main board, if I see a fight on the way to the game, off-topic......kapeesh?

band is entertainment for the crowd.

the only time I can recall the band being involved in a game is the little trombone player receiving the spike in the head in the most famous play in football history, the Cal-Stanford TD run back.

the band is at the game, yes.

Or how about if you don't like a thread don't click on it and read it. I'm only interested in Metroplex football teams so I don't click on any of the others. When I saw the threads about bands and cheerleaders I just skipped over them. Different strokes for different folks...:D

The way I see it a good band can make the game a lot more enjoyable. I have really enjoyed Carroll's band this year. They have done a great job this year. On the other hand there has only been one band that has made a game unenjoyable and that is Allen's band. They are too loud and play too often. There have been bad bands in the past, but they never made me not like the game.

As long as there are bands, cheerleaders, drill teams at the game, then they are part of the game and belong on the same boards as football. You cannot take them out of the game any more than you can the officials. I am a former band parent and I cheer louder than any current or former football parent at the game. I still support the team even though my son graduated 2 years ago. I buy a program ad and season tickets. I am part of the game. The band is too.:)

And, since I posted, we got moved. I guess this poll doesn't matter to the powers that be on this board. :( Guess they didn't see the poll numbers. :( Just call me disappointed. :(

Good analogy - by the way, it's Capice:D :) :D . I'm married to a Sicilian who's uncle looks like DeNiro and brother looks like Stallone - they say it all the time so I looked it up once because I had never heard it before I met "the family"

She is right on two counts here - they all belong (games just don't have the complete energy there when one is missing) and she is really loud - along with me. We both get disappointed that others just sit there but last week I noticed a lot more yelling around us than usual so maybe it's catching on. The key is, don't be embarrassed to show your school spirit at a game...my son graduated 2 years ago and my daughters graduate this year but that doesn't stop me:p

Too bad a lot of the band supporters don't feel the same way. That bunch bails out as soon as you're done with the half time performance. That's their perogative, but I like to think we're there to support all the kids on Friday nights, not just our own. End of editorial, back to the topic.

are you sure those are band parents leaving?

my parents leave after halftime usually, but thats if the game is out of reach. sometimes they leave after the 3rd Q, sometimes stay the whole game. it just depends on the game. if its close i guarentee they'd all stay there. many fans leave after halftime when the game is out of reach, to beat the rushes out of there. many band parents stay. after teh game many band parents come down to the field (home games) and get their kids

sorry lonerocket, but I don't think our cheerleaders are worth squat. They are mainly full of boys who sat on the bench in football and just want to meet girls.
