Is the Southlake game going to just be televised in the Dallas area on UPN or will it be on UPN throughout the whole state? Does anyone know if we will be able to pick it up in Lufkin on the UPN channel that we get through Cox Communications?

i am not sure, i know it will be in the Dallas area for sure, just watch UPN today and see if they advertise it, because, last time i was watching it, they showed luna score a td, followed by peyton manning thorwing a td (colts game follows) or you can just look it up online possibly if cox has a website and channel guide that way

i can't imagine upn would go to the trouble and expense to televise it to restricted areas. hope not anyway. you ought to be able to check the tv guide in your area for the answer.

I looked on TV Guide online and it is not listed. I noticed it is not listed for other areas around the state either. The Dallas area UPN station is the only one that I saw that was broadcasting it. I wanted to watch that game too. So do you all have a website where you post the video of the game like we have for Lufkin? I sure would like to see the game even if it is not live.

Well yes and no. Think about it, if they lose a game this year and then Longview or Lufkin meet and beat them in the playoffs the win will not have as much meaning. I mean it will be great that it would mean you will be going to the state title game but it would be a greater feeling to beat an undefeated SLC team. So it would be nice to see that they can be beat but it would be nicer for it to be a loss to Longview or Lufkin.

Defense - The Dragon's D is really hitting hard today.

Well I guess Renfro is in the game. I hadn't heard his name called in the first half.
Yes, Client is in the game... he had the catch that was rules incomplete in the 1st half.
The dragon's are off to a slow start for the second half. But that was big play... They knocked the snot out of the Lee QB.
But the Dragons lose the punt. Lee has the ball inside the Dragon 10.

Is Coach Dodge not sure who is going to play? What is going on? I know its not just giving little Dodge playing time, cause he was in when SLC didnt have the game in the bag. He was in early, and SLC didnt have it won for sure until the last TD in before the 4th Q. Any ideas what is going on at the QB position?

I hope they dont use them both, they need to pick one and go with it, with the other serving as backup and blowout QB. just my opinion, but seems that would be the better way to do it. As of right now, I dont think they know which will be playing.. Going to be interesting.

I ran back to the house real quick and figured I would say a word or two. SLC is still SLC, but they looked a little rusty. The biggest running threat was Riley Dodge. Speaking of, Dodge rotated the two QBs a lot. McElroy looked pretty good but he did over throw some balls. Riley is gonna be something special... I promise. He is a better runner at this point but he can throw. When he turns the corner, he is damn fast and very good in the open field.
Dodge also rotated the RBs a lot. Neither looked great. The SLC offensive line is very good. Their LT #77 is a monster and damn good. Lee couldnt get any pressure at all on the QB. McElroy just had all day to sit back and wait for the receivers to get open (Dodge was long gone before the receivers could get open).
SLC should be very good this year. Their defense looked alright, but to be honest, I didnt think a whole lot of Lee's offense.

#77 is Mike Prince and Yes, he is a beast.
The game plan for the Dragons was that Riley would play every third series. McElroy had a bad shoulder and was actually questionable earlier in the week. Also the heat probably had an effect on the playing time.
McElroy is the number 1 guy, and he will be for the whole year. Tre Newton is a beast. That run at the end of the game was unbeilvable

the fact of the matter is that as late as friday, no one knew whether mac would play at all. i saw him several times this week and he got along as fast as could be expected with the injury he suffered last friday. the heat played a part in the decision to rotate qbs and wrs. it wore down the dbs late in the 2nd. jacobsen had cramps at half time and renfro's shoulder had only this week allowed him to practice, so he was out of condition.
my take is that slc played a very mediocre game with lots of mistakes and still has some of the weakest special teams play in the state. i am looking forward to some big games from several wrs that didn't get involved much in the offense today. there aren't enough balls to go around. our rb situation is very dependent on the ol play. no blocking = no rushing. the defense was put in some horrible field position problems several times and did fairly well generally. lots of room for improvement all around the field. not a pretty win, but a win none the less.
coppell better be ready to get slaughtered, cause it's happening at your own yard next week.

I think Tre will be good next year. If this game is any indication of where he truly is, he has work to do. Looked like Morefield was more in tune with his responsibilities when he played. Tre goes down pretty easily with arm tackles. I'm sure it seems worse that it is due to the fact that for 3 years we didn't see it happen with Luna. In a game like today we had the horses to keep swapping out. Lee, obviously, didn't. By the mid 4th quarter they looked like they just wanted the game to end.

Really surprising second half - Lee 8 / SLC - 7 - that is dang surprising. I had SLC winning huge in the heat. They clearly dominated, but hats off to Lee. I listened to parts of the game and it sounded like Lee players were cramping more.
This qb swapping would be ticking me off if I were McElroy. As I stated, the coach's son take will get some serious debate here this year. If Greg throws picks at a regular rate - he'll get some clipboard duty IMO.

Fav, the game was not as close as the score, which was'nt really close either. McElroy stung his shoulder in the scrimmage last week and as Ddaddy said earlier, there was some doubt as to whether he would play at all. He did not practice all week & went 20 for 33, for over 300 yds. with 3 TD passes and 1 running. The plan was for Riley to play every 3rd possession, all along. He ran extremely well & had a nice touch on the ball. Tre Newton is a sophomore, & played like one, but he will be a special player before too long, no doubt there. Carroll had way too much depth for Lee, especially at WR, which is incredibly deep..the Dragons swamped them in the second half without Jacobson & Renfro, for the most part. Lee played hard & will win some games this year. Carroll is loaded again, with a very solid D, outstanding offensive line, and almost unfair depth on offense.

there were some extremly hard hits man, the one i think of is, the one where, i cant member who but he was a dragon, flipped some dude over and the Lee dude landed on his back, that was hard hit, or hte time riley nailed the defender, and just knocked him to the ground, riley played pretty tough IMO, also on a kickoff? i think, i couldnt really see, but from what it looked like, some dragon dude just nailed the lee guy and he fumbled, had to be a hard hit!

I was very impressed with SLC all things considered. I went to Shotwell not expecting to see McElroy at all. I also didnt know how much of Renfro I would see. You take away a couple of SLC mistakes (and a couple of bad calls) and SLC scores 60 easily.
The amazing thing is, even though SLC still has some stuff to work on and kids to get healthy... they still racked up over 530 yards of offense (359 passing and 177 rushing), 25 first downs, 48 points and they only punted twice. It's scary to think that those numbers were put up by a "rusty" offense.
BTW, the SLC defense held a potentially good offense from Lee to just 236 yards of total offense. Not bad if you ask me.

Yeah Matt Harrison had a sick hit on that kickoff, and James Allen threw a nice block.
But what about that "fumble" that McElroy had on the goal-line. He was obviously all the way in the endzone and somehow the refs missed that.
But I was pretty happy to see that Evan Fintress had a couple of catches. He is really quick and just adds more depth to the recieving corps.

i agree he had a couple of miscues, but generally i was impressed with his ability to get open and sometimes by long distances. he's going to make some dbs have sleepless nights before it's over. smiter is going to come up big this year too. as i've been saying for months, our wr depth is sick. we had 350 yds and got no production from the leading returning wr in the state.

It was a weird game. We think SLC offense played a lack luster game, but they had 48 pts and 530+yards and 2 punts. We say the defense looked good, but they gave up 25 pts (I know field position was bad, but still), it just seems weird. All in all, SLC is still SLC and they have an as good or better shot than most of the top teams to make it back to the dance. Expect much of the same from the previous years, sorry. By the way, McElroy was over the line on the fumble, just throwing that out there:)

DMN shows Lee getting 242 total yds.....87 rushing and 155 passing
FWST shows 208 total yds.......111 rushing and 97 passing.

are you talking about me ddaddy ? - You know good and well I am not going to say anything negative about Mckay. He looked good and like I have said in previous posts -- the sooner whoever the QB is realizes their glory and victories like with the receivers - especially Mckay - ( I found humor in people saying Clint was the best receiver -or the transfer kid) the better off SLC will be.
I think it is kind of funny that I see all these greenbloods posting Mcelroys stats but they always leave off the fumble and the 2 picks in the stats. mmhhh? Seems like you would want to tell the whole story. He looked pretty good - especially for being hurt. but his receivers were open all day == all day. He missed a few easy tosses and chose to tuck and run instead. --seems to me he likes to lock in and holds the ball a little too long - could be wrong though. Riley -- all 5'9" of him is a better player and a better QB.
SLC looked pretty good. I see them making a deep run - barring injury. that was not a td - the ball got popped out well before he crossed the goal line - and midland lee let a lot of opportunities slip --

Wow. I don't remember Katy taking so much flak/smack after winning State in '03. In fact, we didn't take this much abuse after losing to Clear Lake.
I guess drgnbckr and dragondaddy really stir things up on this board.

I would have to say the kid played well nonetheless. Especially it being his first time out.
Predictions are something you think is gonna happen. It's like playing the lotto you "predict" certain numbers. Now, do you always get them right? No. But if you hit it in the general ball park, then you had a fairly good prediction.
And who cares if he threw two ints and maybe even fumble the ball once or twice. Most important thing is he didn't let it get to him and he still lead his team to victory.

well obviously the slc apologists care because if they didnt then they would mention those same stats in their posts.

Okay, it isn't that big of a deal, they won, yes, he made some mistakes but that's almost expected from a QB that has just began to lead the team for the first time, has a shoulder injury and the burden of repeating another State Championship.

I'm sure he will get better after that game. If not, you can trash talk me all you want - just give the kid a freaking chance before you call out every little thing that's wrong with him.

I think that's why some have tried to tone down the rhetoric on this kid. Predictions on him have gotten way out of hand. He is a good QB and will get better, but some of the summer predictions were setting the bar way too high. Even an excellent season would be viewed as a failure if you were to believe some of the stuff posted on this board in the last few months. Back off this kid a little and give him some time and room to grow and quit expecting 5000 yard seasons and 500 yard games. If they come, great, it they don't, then you can still enjoy watching a talented football team play.

The thing that gets me is he's prooved that he can be a good quarterback and he won a game and people STILL point out his imperfections. People always forget the good parts of something but never forget the bad parts.

No kidding.. with all the talk, press clippings and ect on him this past 6 months. He had to feel like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.
Heck, I watched the Hoover vs Nease game on ESPN. The All-American QB-Tedbow from Nease threw a couple of picks and fumbled the ball once. But his still very good.

That Tedbow kid is amazing. He is huge, but still has speed. It was funny watching those guys try to take him down when he ran with it. They said he had some issues to work on before college, but I think he will do just fine as-is. He seemed to stay calm and continue to lead even when they were down by a few TD's. It will be interesting to see how he will do in college. Did he give a verbal to anyone yet? I didnt hear anyone say anything about where he might be going.

are you talking about me ddaddy ?
I see them making a deep run - barring injury. that was not a td - the ball got popped out well before he crossed the goal line - and midland lee let a lot of opportunities slip --
Once again plac..when the kid is 20 of 33 with 4 TD's in his first starting game & routs the other team, with a bad shoulder...we'll take it...picks, bobbles, warts & all..know what I mean? And your right Riley ain't bad either, & we've got him for 2 more years after this....

redskins - let me explain to you why I and others point this out. HEre is the deal = these greenbloods - they are a proud bunch - and deservedly so because they are dang good. but they like to hype their kids up - they are the best at everything - deep snapper? - the best - punter- the best - school - the best - go back and read the posts - they were pumping that kid up = Lebron Jamesish and then after the game - they only post his positive stats and dont say anything about the picks or the fumble -- well if he is that grand =- post all the stats -- ALL OF THEM
Look I think he is good and I have said as much in my posts - but dragonsdaddy and bklr and slc thug etc.. -these clowns - sorry - guys are unbelievable bias. It is ridiculous. I went to Judson but you dont hear my or lonny on here saying how Judson has the greatest this or the greatest that - at least for my part - I am more of a realist.
Now Ddaddy what he does is look up a $5 dollar word when you call him out and try to hide behind it - but when he discusses the issue with an educated individual - well he resorts to petty tactics and holds on to his hof status with his 900000000000 posts.

I dont like to argue, so I am not getting into this, but I did have to say one thing, and I think that SLC fans will agree with me. They dont have the best punter, as a matter of fact I would say that their punt team last year was in the bottom 2% of the state. Other than that, you guys can carry on with this arguement.

Well, I don't think dragonsdaddy was happy with me trying to defend SLC so I'll just step out of this matter. But of course they're gonna have high expectations - they're the Champions. But you also need to give slack to a new QB.
I try to be a realist....quite difficult at times. But that's what I tryt o be on boards - especially when there are others involved but if I'm talking to my friends in school, I'll be the most bias person you'll ever meet.

when i am posting with intelligent individuals, there is no need to be "petty" or anything but respectful. when i post with someone whose objectivity is based on where a kids attends church, it's a whole other matter. my objectivity is highly questionable, but i do have a long relationship with many of these kids, and while i may be a little over-board on ocasions, i am 1-49 as an apologist.
as an aside, i happen to have a large vocab and spell pretty well, which is neither here nor there when it comes to getting points across. it is just a way to use these expensively garnered words in conversations that don't arise very often in real-life. my mom does that sort of thing for a living and would be proud to see me use the 25 centers when a nickle one would do. hey everything else i have is falling apart, now that the warranty has run out, i better use em while i got em.

I agree with you about McKay. He could be the MVP this year and was clearly the MVP on Saturday. His 8 catches, 147 yards and 2 TDs were impressive. Let's not forget his 85 return yards. Not bad for half a game.
No doubt that McKay is helped by the defense keying on Clint. He is also helped by the match-ups he gets playing from the slot.
Frankly, SLC is way to deep at receiver. There are another 5 guys in addition to McKay and Clint that can get open and catch the ball.
Add to that the mini QB controversy at SLC. Everyone knows that both McElroy and Riley are good. People are arguing which one is better.
All of this bodes very well for the SLC passing attack.

You may have a point, my friend, but I think you look at SLC through mud colored glasses. Living next door to Southlake and seeing SLC replace your beloved Judson as the #1 5A football power can taint your persepctive. Not as much of a realist as you might think.
No one said SLC was the best at everything. No one said McElroy was Lebron Jamesish.
It was stated that SLC has one of the top overall programs in Texas (they do). It was also noted that McElroy is a stud and a strong D1 prospect. He is. That's remarkable for a player who had never started a varsity game and remarkable coming on the heels of 3 consesecutive years of SLC QBs being the 5A offensive players of the year. That is truly noteworthy.

SLC Dad - I will just address the one comment you made that stands out to me because it illustrates the delusions shared amongst the loyalists - " SLC replace your beloved Judson as the #1 5A football power" - wow what a bold statement. SLC has been 5 a for what 3 years going on a 4th and already they have established themselves as the #1 program in all of 5a football in Texas? Amazing. KAty ? Katy respond ? North Shore ? ANyone see a problem with this sort of comment ? - It is totally indicative of the nature of the beast. - in 5 or 10 more years - come speak to me about being the #1 power in 5a.
Ddaddy- So you are petty with me becuase you feel intellectually superior to me ? I see. I will have to brush up on my vocabulary and research the science and nature of teeth so that I may be on your level intellectually. I will start on that right away so that hopefully one day I can be HOF or at least close and we can discuss football, teeth, whitenening and I gain your much sought after respect. Until such time, I fear that I will lose sleep and go bald. Lord - please bless me to be as smart as that einstein with the Thesarus in hand Ddaddy.
As far as Mckay - I just think he can play and he is a good kid. My statement that he is the best player on this team has no relevance to his religious affilitation. He has talent and heart - I know from playing basketball against him that he has fire and doesn't back down. He showed on Friday he is the best player on the Dragons.

I don't think that there punt team was in the bottom 2%, but even if it was it is a completly irrelovent stat considering this team punts about once a game. Last year the punt team played poor in the playoffs, and hence took a lot of heat for it. Also our punter was James Allen, also a wide receiver. Trust me, James didn't loose any sleep over the punting stats last year. He was relishing over his offensive stats. This year Kevin Ortega will take over the punting duties. His first punt that went 17 yards was his first ever punt and was also into the wind.
I think it would be very hard to criticize SLC's special teams. If i remember correctly Ortega made a field goal as time expired to win the State Cahmpionship last year.
