Although the score is a typical 31-7 going into halftime...getting there has been very atypical.
SLC's offensive line has been NON-existentin this game. The Texans (Northwest) are getting consistent penetration, and the Dragon's are getting NOTHING on the ground. This will probably be Newtons worst game to date.
On the other side, Northwest's o-line is holding fine, and the Dragon's D has only had ONE good stop. The Texans have pretty much driven down the field at ease, and on one drive turned the ball over at Carroll's 4.
So far the Dragon's probably have something around 65-80 yards in PENALTIES. Very un-Carroll like as they're typically very disciplined. Mind, you all those penatlies in only one half.
Both quarterbacks are having a phenomenal game through the air. I've been really impressed with McGanus(sp) of NW. He's very precise and sounds like he has a heck of an arm. Dodge has also had terrific success, especially throwing mid-to-deep balls (15-35 yards). Unfourtanetly for Dodge, he's also gotten sacked, or dropped behind the LoS, 8-10 times, perhaps more.
Anyway, very impressive performances by both offenses thus far (minus Carroll's off. line which needs a very good butt whoopin at half!)
Most impressive drive: Following a NW punt, Carroll takes the ball over with 1:16 in the half at their own 6 yard line. They get some kind of penalty on the kickoff return, taking it back half the distance, now 3 yard line with about 1:00 remaining (1 timeout left). First play, Dodge gets sacked back at the 1. 48 seconds left in the half, 2nd and 12, 99 yard to go for a TD. Long story short...with 9 seconds left in the half Dodge hits a receiver for the TD. :D

I think you're overstating things just a bit.
Northwest has had two excellent drives (one which ended on a fumble) and three bad ones. I believe they've had three three and outs. Also, Drew Ashley hasn't done much on the ground. And ultimately, they scored just 7.
Offensively, while Carroll has done very little on the ground, they've scorched Northwest through the air. Dodge has over 300 yards passing in the first half. They've scored on five of six possessions. I agree that Northwest has applied a great deal of pressure, but I don't believe that Dodge has been dropped behind the LOS 8-10 times. I think it's a little less than eight (maybe six).
Agree about the penalties, though I'm pretty sure the yardage is less than that.

I guess it did sound worse when listening to the game, because they just did the halftime report and NW only had 117 yards. So you have to be right about the 3 and outs. I am however nervous about the ease of their penetration against our Oline, and our lack of coverage on their receivers. Against a team like Lufkin that won't be pretty! Finaly halftime is over :) haha
They announced the penalty-yardge as well, it was a fat 60. But hey at least thats better than the 65-80 i suspected!

Those Northwest fans sound LOUD over the radio. They are amped up, despite the score.

No kidding...i've def gained some respect for NW though. Texans just had another good drive...glad our D stiffened up in the red! Do you think we could "recruit" Knickerbaucker? He's only a soph. Cantu has worked out well for us haha

Yeah, that LB sounds like a player.
Northwest continues to apply pressure and Carroll continues to score in spite of that pressure.

SLC Fan - man I know we are going to end up winning by a lot...but this has just been a really sloppy and poorly played game. Worst game this year by far. If it wasn't for a few 3rd and long conversions by Cantu or Ford we'd be an even worse situation. I do not feel at all good about this game regardless of the score.

It's been sloppy by Carroll standards (and as far as the penatlies go, by ANYONE'S standards), but if this is our let down game of the 2006 regular season, then that's pretty good.

Although SLC kicked our butts, the officiating in this game was absolutely atrocious. The officials handed SLC two touchdowns because of penalties - 1 was a pass interference call on the 2nd touchdown that put SLC up 17 - 0 and the other was a perfectly defended ball when SLC went for it on 4th and 11 late in the game. NW got called for pass interference again and SLC scored a couple of plays later. This game was much closer than the score suggests.

You called the officiating right...but they missed a lot of the game both ways...can't ever count on the refs to do anything for you....you guys go give Heritage a game..

No, just lots of flags both ways. Carroll was not handed two touchdowns by the officials. NW played well and Carroll looked spotty on occasion, on both sides of the ball. It is certainly the case that Carroll did not put away NW, as they have others this season and in that sense the game was closer than the score suggests. But, it was not the result of officiating. If anything, I think the Dragons accumulated more penalty yardage than did the Texans.

11 SLC penalties to 4 and YOURE whining? I didnt get a good view of the first penalty that youre referring to but that 4th and 11 late in the game was an obvious pass interference. Dodge made a great pass and the defender came through/over the top of the reciever to knock it down.
SLC has a couple of these games each year and the loser always says the same thing. """if a few more things would have went our way we might have won""". Actually, the truth be known, these teams ALREADY were the beneficery of the penalties and intangibles to get as close as they did to SLC!!!! NW already used up their 3 magic genie wishes to come as close as they did. What do you think the score would have been if NW had 108 yards in penalties?(remember a TD was called back on SLC right before Dodges run failed on 4th and 1).
NW played the Dragons tougher than anyone this year. The score was reasonably reflective of the action on the field with the intangibles falling a little toward NW.
Football is just weird sometimes. NW looked solid against the Dragons and as kooky as football is they may lose to Haltom by 40! lol.

Question - I thought enforcement of pass interference was 15 yards from the LOS or to the spot where the foul occured if < 15 yds from the LOS. On the penalty you mentioned, the refs awarded SLC 15yds even though the infraction occured < 15 yds from the LOS. Same thing happened on the next series when NW had the ball. Were the refs correct?
Anyway there was lots of laundry dropped in this game. You won't get much sympathy from SLC fans though - particularly since our total doubled NW's.

In HS football it's a flat 15 yd penalty like unsportsmanlike conduct, etc (which sucked on one Carroll play where the penalty occured 45 yards out! haha)

45-21 isn't a typical SLC score. However, a win is a win. 7-0 is better than 6-1. The positive side of this game is that the defense played all 4 qtrs. We are going to need to play the whole game some time. Time to get back in shape to play the whole game. There was something that caused SLC to not be that sharp. Could it be the homecoming f]estivities??? Next week will be a real yawner....Keller, at their crappy field no less.

you cannont say stuff like this if you are not watching the game. Listening to it on the radio does not show you what is going on.
