Hey Leander,, Paul Thompson beat out Rhett Bomar for the starting QB job !
They just named Paul Thompson the starting QB for OU. He beat out Rhett Bomar the golden boy. :)

Sounds like they went with experience. He looked mediocre to me in mop-up duty last year.
I'm also wondering if they didn't want to go with a different look. They've had slow, strong-armed qb's for 4-5 years straight now --- maybe they wanted more of a running threat from qb.
Will be interesting - could this be the year the Horns finally win?

Ya, I think this is the year the Horns win. If the Horns lose this year there needs to be some serious questions about Mack Brown. His a solid coach but losing year after year to UO (Stoops) isnt going to cut it and this year almost everyone is predicting the Horns to beat UO.
But, I think Paul Thompson is a pretty solid QB. His pretty athletic and has a very good arm. I had a feeling that he would beat out Rhett Bomar. At least to start the season. Something tells me there is a "hair trigger" on pulling him out if there is a couple of mistakes.
But, I wont be surprised to see Paul Thompson have a very solid season.
PS. This has to hurt the "ego" of Rhett Bomar bigtime. When he was being recruited "by everyone" he stated about a 1,000 times that he wanted to be the starter at least after his red-shirt year. I bet this is causing some rift in the Bomar clan.

Rhett needs to eat some humble pie - plus, I have limited concern for those that cross our sacred borders.

rhett is anything but nslow footed. he has been timed in the 4.5 range since high school. his size makes his speed deceiving. anyway, congrats to paul. i too expect a short lease.

Why ?? I mean I'm not a fan at all of OU. But why ? If Paul Thompson is better right now he deserves it.
I saw the OU Spring game on Foxsports and really thought Paul Thompson was alot better then Bomar.
Bomar made alot of mistakes and tried to force way to many things and sounds like that hasnt changed this fall.

I'm a Longhorn fan....................only reason i want Bomar to play is because of how he almost singal handledly beat us my senior year (when they lined up for 2.......I almost pissed in my pants on the field)...........if his daddy would have just kicked the PAT instead of going for 2.

Ok, .. his a great player with alot of talent. I do think he'll eventually get the starting spot (maybe not this season) but I do think he'll get it.
I do think Paul Thompson has some very bigtime skills. He just needs some playing time to take his game to the next level. I just hope the UO coaches dont have to fast a trigger on him because everyone is going to make mistakes. Hopefully they give him a fair shot.
I do think Bomar is a future bigtime "STAR" and might be the best overall talented QB that State of Texas has ever produced.

Better then Vince Young and Reggie McNeal? His stats in High School were impressive but not like Young's and McNeal's. I know he is in college now and could have a stellar career at the college level but it would be tough to be the best overall talented QB to ever come out of Texas. Especially when you are going to be compared to Vince and Reggie. Those guys are always in the papers and magazines receiving praises for their great athletic ability.

There is always going to be a debate about this I know. Obviously Vincent Yount "FEET" are light years ahead of Bomar. Heck, his feet are light years ahead of almost everyone except Michael Vick and that's a toss up.
Reggie McNeal is probably more rounded (running and throwing).
I see alot of a young John Elway in Rhett Bomar. Time will tell I guess. But, I would say that Rhett Bomar is right there (Top five ) Texas QB prospects ever and might be the best after its all said and done.
I've only seen a handful of plays from Rhett Bomar when he was in High school. I did see him play in the Texas High school Coaches All-Star game and he was 100% amazing in that game and showed his great skills. I think he threw 5 tds passes in the game and threw lazer darts all over the field hitting kids right on the #'s in full run. His very talented.
