What the heck are you guy's smoking. The game ended close but this was anything but an excellent game. Churchill had multiple turnovers, Marshall was very sloopy with at least 5 illegal percedure penalties and 3 turnovers of their own. Both teams gave up a TD pass on blown coverages.

You could tell this is the first game of the season but Churchill #10 in the state (Harris poll)...NO WAY. They can't stop the pass to save their lives. Finnuzi (?) is the real deal. To bad the only WR that could catch the ball tonight was #4 Burns. Ian Harris had an awful night (4 drops including a TD pass).
Marshall will go as far as Escamille can carry them. They have no running game and their WR are nothing special. They also might have lost Johnny Moore their stud TE. He came out of half time on crutches and a full leg brace to the hip. :(

I'm sure that both these teams will get better but right now neither of these teams are top 50 in the state.

I expected a lot more. Sorry.

From what I saw, I thought Marshall could have passed on Churchill all night. They got the 20-0 lead and then tried to sit on it. At the end, you have to give credit to Marshall for driving 80 yards for the winning TD. The lose of Johnny Moore was huge to their offense but if he is gone all year so will their season. They can't run with any consistantcy and their O-line got pushed around in the 2nd half. Churchill had a great come back but they made to many mistakes at the end. They fumbled at the Marshall 15 and then the fumble at the Marshall 1yd line was a killer. They score there and their up by 10 with 5 min to go. Just too many mistakes by two teams that are suppose to be top 25 teams in the state.

Marshall has a pretty good team and so does Churchill. Like I said before, I'll believe Churchill is for REAL when they actually win and they aren't there yet. No first or second or probably 3rd in district this year.

Don't get me wrong here, but Churchill nor Marshall are top 30 teams. Churchill secondary is very suspect. Any team that can throw will tear them up. Marshall can throw a little and that's how they won (plus put in a handful of turnovers and 2 miss field goals). Finuzzi is the real deal and he will only get better but they will not beat SV or Judson and will have their hands full with Madison and maybe even Mac. Mac's defense looked very good against Clark tonight. Their offense was another story.

Churchill will be good but they won't challenge for the district title this year.

Marshall won't win district. Watch out for Warren. They have NO RUNNING GAME and Escamilla can't do it by himself. If they lost Johnny Moore, they are toast. This kid not only was a big part of the offense but he was an excellent blocker.

Uh....the Mac-Clark game was exactly like that. Mac had so many bones thrown at them it wasn't even funny....course when they went for the forth down and Udell got sacked about 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage....I kinda laughed at that though...

I know....it's Mac. You guy's just keep thinking that way. I'm not saying they'll beat Judson or SV but they can beat the rest of 265A. They will stay in a lot of games just because of the defense. If and it's a big if...they can get the offense going, they will challenge for that last playoff spot. If the offense doesn't get better then they won't.

...Try not listening to the coaches too much. The last playoff spot is between Roosevelt and Churchill....I doubt Madison will amount to much.

Gridiron Gopher

I blame the delay of game on the coach'es. They did this last year when it came to field goal attempts. It's like they can't make up their mind and then they let the clock run down. To make it worst, they then call a time out on the next play because they let it run down again. Then they go for it (only a 38 yd fg attempt) on 4th and 12 and Udell watches the blitz and takes a 10 yard lost. :( :( :(. He did it all night long.

The delays are on the coaches. They're taking to long to get the play in. It's their first game too so hopefully they can get that fixed.

Gridiron Gopher
08-27-2005, 12:19 AM
Wait a minute, last week Madison was going to battle Churchill for the last spot. Now they lose to San Marcos and Roosevelt beats E Central (Yea Ha!!!!!) and Roosevelt is now going to challenge for the last spot and Madison won't amount to much. Sounds to me like you're a flavor of the week kind of guy.
Stick to you picks and stop flip flopping. :)

Reaganrattler07
08-27-2005, 12:24 AM
Reagan, Mac and Lee won't come close to Madison. If you notcied, i didn't include those three. Madison will get....oh, maybe 5th, possibly 4th but I'm shooting for fifth. With Judson and SV in their own lil area in 1 and 2, Churchill or maybe Roosevelt with a finish at 3 and Madison behind 4th. As for the three I listed in the beginning of this post....probably not much different from last year. So you see, my predictions are about the same as last week.

And you can blame the coaches all you want, the players stood there in a huddle and watched the clock wind down. I think the point was to let the clock run out and have udell kick it anyways to see if he could get it or not, and he didn't. So they just went for it.

I agree it was real sloppy but being the unbiased fan, Churchill looked much better. Marshall had no offense other than two broken plays for TD's in the 1st ..and other than the final drive, they didn't get a first down in the whole 2nd half. And yes Marshall did stop passing, but thats because Churchill got 2 INT's and seemed like a different team in the 2nd half. On the other side, I thought that Fanuzzi kid looked great (big, strong, fast) and if it weren't for so many dropped balls and fumbles Churchill couldv'e very well won 42-21. He's for REAL and Churchill will improve and make playoffs. Marshall was my sleeper pick to win 27-5A, but not after that showing plus Warren surprised me tonight and shutout a good Alamo Heights offense.

You must have been at the game but was listening to it from the bathroom or something. They didn't even have the kicker Udell on the field until the 25 sec clock was down to 11 seconds. They then tried to rush up to the line of scrimmage and didn't get if off.
They then proceded to talk during the penalty time and then had to call a time out because they weren't going to get a play of again. That my friend is bad time management by the team and coach.
How can you have 4th and 7 from the 19yd line and not know what you're going to do in a 13-13 tie. They did the same thing against Reagan last year when they were up 17-14. Udell rushed out there and missed a chip shot from 31 yds out. Reagan they took the next play for 80 yds up the cut for a leading TD.
Yes Udell is in charge, but how many times are you going to get the play in last and especially on a field goal attempt that you know you might have to go to the play before.

Reaganrattler07
08-27-2005, 12:35 AM
...The score was never 17-14 with Reagan last year. (it started off 10-10 and both teams scored touchdowns) And last year's game with Reagan is completely irrelevant.

So your telling me mighty Van Fuschak has bad time management? Or is it the infamous Offensive Cord. that has bad time management?

Gridiron Gopher
08-27-2005, 12:39 AM
Blackcat, I agree with what Churchill could have done. Too many mistakes and fumbles (one on the 20 and the killer at the 1), but I just don't like the secondary. When they needed it the most, they couldn't stop a Mooreless offense and a hurt Escamillia. Finuzzi will have to lead this team to that last playoff spot because they have no running game. #20 and #36 have very vanilla and neither is big enough to power their way through. Yes I still think they will get it because of Finuzzi. But Madison, Roosevelt or Mac could steal that spot. Defense wins games. Offense fills the seats. That will never change.

Gridiron Gopher
08-27-2005, 12:41 AM
It's hard to say on which coach since they are both there talking to the QB. You just can't keep puting your team in those spots. In most HS games, those type of momentum swings will cost you games. This time it didn't.

Reaganrattler07
08-27-2005, 12:44 AM
Mac's defense wasn't exactly "ooh and aah" as they had a hard time stopping the run....however, Clark for some odd reason couldn't hold onto the ball, that cost them. I really doubt that Mac will be able to beat out Churchill for the third spot. Heck, they may even lose to Roosevelt or Madison again.

I heard Roosevelt's got a pretty good team and Madison's probably out to show that they can beat you all. What year is Craig? Senior?

Gridiron Gopher
