The Battle of Brazos County... 13-5A game of the week? Only Kyle Field could hold this game! Haha.
Nothing like playing in Kyle Field. You better have an accurate kicker with those goal posts being a bit skinnier.
This should be a great game. Anyone have a prediction? :D (no locker room material from me!)

well this always turns out to be a pretty close game. You would think that after Ellison beat bryan 21-7 and consol beat Ellison 45-14, that consol would handle bryan, but I dont expect that to be the case at all. I thik that after the bye week, bryan will be very focused and prepared. At the same time, I expect for our coaches to have us in the right frame of mind as well. I think bryan has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, but im not sure if they have enough to hold consol. The fact that consol runs so much could open up the passing game at times. I think this might be Detron's breakout game. I know bryans O line is huge, but consols linebackers are IMO probably the best in the state. I dont see bryan doing much with the running game. How has their passing attack been so far this year? Im gona say that this game will be close, but im gona predict a 28-17 consol victory.

The problem is you really can't approach this game logically. I've seen the unexpected over the years. Weird stuff happens in rivalry games. This is a very old time rivalry. Emotions run high. Whoever wins, it likely won't be by much. The game last season was decided on the foot of a kicker.

I think that Consol will win, but it'll be a close one. Shea might have to make a couple of field goals for the win. Do you guys know when Chris will be ready to play again after his dislocated knee friday night?

Yah they were there...I talked to some of them as a matter of fact. And I will quote what one of the players said, "Man y'all are for real, gettin on Ellison like that."
It'll be a crazy game, you never can predict what's gonna happen at a B-High - Consol game! I pick Consol by 10-14 points. Maybe like 28-14 or so.

I don't think we'll meet up in the playoffs. From the D1 bracket that the KTs have put together, if Bryan gets far enough they will face Spring Westfield. Westfield's defense is pretty good, so I don't think we would meet up if the brackets stayed relatively the same as they are now.

the crowds at the recent consol Bryan games have not been near the size they used to be...especially the Bryan side...in '94 the game was for the district title the first year ACM and Bryan were back in the same district and the bottom was completly filled...an estimated 20,000+...hopefully this year will be like that...a Bryan upset and we could be looking at co-champions. Another note, its no secret that Bryne doesnt like this game being played at Kyle...we just signed a new 2 year agreement, but I dont see A&M extending the contract after that...where will this game be played?...no way we would be able to play at Tigerland...maybe Bryan, but what would we do play at Bryan every year?

Not tryin to criticize anything, but do you think our 12 points will be a result of 2 missed extra points or 4 field goals? I doubt the 2 missed thing, but I'm sure Shea could kick 4 fgs for us.
But anyway, I think it'll be a good game, but I still gotta go with the Tigers. Maybe a score of 21-14 or 28-14 is in order. And is this the GOW for sure?

I think if we went home and home, we'd just have to play at Tigerland and Bryan would have to have a lot of standing room only folks along the fences. As of now, that's just the way it is. I guess when the new HS comes on-line in a few years, we'll have a new stadium built and it'll no longer be an issue.

Yah that's really puzzling. You'd think that a game featuring a top 10 team and their biggest rival would at least make the list. Not to mention Bryan is ranked in the top 25. I'm not so sure what could be going through the KTs heads on that one...but if one of them could explain it would be appreciated. I'm not like offended or mad, just slightly puzzled.

For bryan to win this one all they need to do is just pound it up the middle on consol all night, take it slow keep the score low and use up a ton of the clock. Consol's linebackers are great but, bryan's o-line is huge and will be able to handle the consol front 4 or 3. For consol to win this one, blitz the linebackers, make bryan fumble all night and have the offensive side of the ball rack up points fast to throw bryan out of its running game, then bryan will have to go to the pass and well consol should have that convered, especially after a few hits from consol's secondary.

thats true, the players dont care much about the trophy, just the bragging rights that come with it. We see these guys from bryan over town during the course of the year, and its always nice to rag on them a little if we win. If they win then you know they will be the ones dishin it out. that was probably the best catch i have ever seen. He got sooooo high on that catch. I dont understand why we dont throw more often. We proved tonigh that our passing game can be just as effective if not more than our running game. Randall had a great game too. I think he is very underrated.

Not wrong..... there were plenty of deserving games, you can't foresee which ones will actually turn out to be barn burners.
I don't know the names of all the players, so I will give ya'll my thoughts...
Good to see Brewster continuing the tradition of fine kickers for Consol... he might be among the top 2 or 3 HS punters I have seen in person. Bryan's punter ain't a slouch either.
No. 71 Evan Eike OL for Bryan is a HOSS. Bryan's whole line was huge but he stood out. A&M will be lucky to have him. I thought that Bryan's ground game was going to punish Consol all night, good job to the linebackers and undersized DL of the Tigers to slow them down.
WR. No. 9 (Lewis) and No. 1 (?) from Consol. impressed me the most from Cosnol. besides the punter. Big, fast, good hands. Lewis had quite a few circus catches. Can any Consol. insiders tell me if he is getting looked at for a D-IA scholi?
Bryan was much larger than Consol., but I would have to give the edge to Consol. at all skill positions save RB, and in the secondary. Bryan does have one burner at DB, he came all the way across the field to punch the ball out of a Consol. reciever's hands to save a touchdown on a long pass play in the 1st quarter. Just great speed and persistence for a HS player.
The game was pretty boring through the first half, but boy.....those OT's were something.
Good game, great atmosphere. I will catch next year's game at Kyle to be sure.

lol, I think it would take a little more than us to bring down Kyle Field. Have you ever stood at the top of Kyle when they are swaying. The stadium actually sways a little.
thats true, but im not sure if you noticed that we definitely broke one of the stands about four rows up. right where two pieces of metal meet, they became disconnected, and was nearly snapped about two feet in from the end. now if only we could do that to our stadium.:D

well this always turns out to be a pretty close game.

Wow, this was an amazing game. Detron had about 190 receiving yards with 2 touchdowns. Randall had a good game also and Palmer played well except for one huge mistake. He got in some big trouble to for that. He broke open like a 70 yard run, but celebrated to early and had the ball knocked out just like the A&M-Mizzou game. Here are some pics of the game.

Yea, if he wouldn't have made that mistake we probably would've got momentum earlier and not had to win in OT. And yes, I forgot to add TTU to Detrons list. I've heard that his top two are OSU and TT and after last night, I would not be surprised if Texas A&M gave him an offer.
I heard that after the game, Daniel had to run some bleachers before he even went into the locker room. I think Slaughter handled that right and now he will never make that mistake again. Can't wait to beat up on Belton and Harker Heights!

Detron has an article on scout.com that came out today where he is quoted as saying he loves the tech offense. My son and i were at the Tech spring game back in April. I spent some time talking there and in emails to the coaches about various players for Consol. Detron would be a great fit for them. His acrobatic circus leaping catches are incredible. His ability to catch a come-backer and then pick up big time yards after catch is something else. As was documented in the paper on saturday, it's that ability that had the bryan DB bite on a pump and go route on the 80 yard TD that tied it up with 3 min to go.

I certainly didn't see Palmer running stands in Kyle after the game. i have a hard tiem believing that BS. Now on Saturday before films perhaps? Haha. But, again, probably not.
He's a good kid that got a bit carried away. You gotta remember, Palmer really gets up for playing Bryan. It was a beautiful 80 yard run. He followed his blocks and hit the hole and then it was just a race down the sidelines.
Again, this was against bryan, running down their sideline, in front of their band. blah blah blah I dont' know if its that he just knows so many guys there, or if it's that he's been playing against them since 5th grade or what, he just gets geeked up playing those guys.
It was a shame, but his "punishment' was that he didn't get his hands on the ball much after that if I recall correctly. He knows he let his buddies down and I know him well enough to know that was all the punishment he needed. It won't happen again. I'm just glad it didnt' cause us to lose. I'm a big Palmer fan and always will be. I feel bad for him as it was such a great run. I haven't seen the film yet, but the Bryan DB might have punched that ball out regardless of whether Palmer had stated celebrating. We'll never know.
Also, don't count your chickens on HH and Belton. HH is undefeated in district, right?

if Consol had a QB they would be unstoppable....all they have to do is get the ball to Detron and mix in the run a bit...tehy also need to stop rolling the freaking pocket everytime they want to throw the ball, the QB's are not that mobile and dont have strong enough arms..3 step drop throw it up for Detron..its that simple. Consol coaches seem lost at times...and they take way too long to get the plays in...cost us a delay of game inside our own 10...terrible. Its obvious what Consol needs to work on in order to have another long playoff run.

i think the coaches were expecting Austin Cassidy ('07) ( http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=35995 ) to be our qb the past two years, but he moved before his sophomore year cuz his dad got a job at Nebraska...
i used to play basketball with him when i was in 8th grade and he was a freshman... he could dunk, and he was a great athlete for a freshman in high school

Yea, but Austin hasn't been here for a while. I thought he left like after his 8th grade year. Anyways, I think that against Bryan, our o-line probably couldn't hold that d-line long enough for Chris to sit in the pocket and throw a good pass. But I see what you're saying, with the 3 step drop and throw, just as long as somebody's open. I also think that we should be getting the ball to Detron more than we do now. When we get in the redzone we should throw a jumpball to him b/c he'll probably outjump the cornerback 95% of the time. Just my thoughts though.

IMO, chris has done an excellent job. He couldnt play at the beginning of the season because he had to have surgery on his foot, but now that he is 100% I think he is fitting in just fine. He may not be the biggest, fastest, or stronges, but he seems to have a good feel for the game. He also makes quick decisions, and if it werent for his knee he is actually pretty fast. Obviously he doesnt have a cannon arm, but he can throw a good spiral plenty far.
Also, you cant forget about Randall. He may not be as highly recruited as detron, but he is still very good. I think that they should use detron on some decoy routs and run randall underneath sometimes. He has great hands and is very fast. I think that often times, the defense is so worried about stopping detron that they forget about randall.
In reguards to taking to long, Im not sure how much quicker we could do it, seeing as we run a no huddle offense. I think the delay of game was either a fluke or just chrises fault.

Saw the film today. Several things stood out. Bryan's o-line is massive and all that, but man do they hold a lot. Not just a lot, but about every play. They had 2 holding penalities called all game. If you don't believe me, watch the film.
I disagree with the guy above about the QB situation. We've got 3 guys that can do the job. None of them are big time stars at this point, but with jones coming off the knee injury, I thought he did a great job. I only saw one "bad" pass all game. (and it landed at detron's feet where no one else could catch it) Bryan had 9 guys in the box for a lot of the game. They dared us to pass and we did.
Consol had a bunch of stupid penalties that killed drives. That has to stop.
Both coaching staffs made good adjustments when it counted. Classic cross town match. We all expected a war and we got one. Next time I'd like to see the officials call the game a bit more equally.
Definitely things to work on, but having a week off is a good timing.

Consol does not run a no huddle, the concept of the no huddle is to not give the defense a rest and make them keep the same personel on the field...again consol does not do this. Yes consol does not huddle, but they signal in the plays, which takes way too long..coach Pryor needs to hurry this up..and then the players look up the play on their wrist band and snap the ball with the play clock always around 5 seconds remaining. That is not a no huddle offense...the defense is allowed plenty of time make adjustments and subs as they wish.
When Ross Rogers was at Consol, he was a master of the no huddle. He had no wrist bands...players knew the plays and there was always a sense of urgency..his guys hustled and didnt allow the defense any time...once the ball was set for play..it was snapped. That was a no huddle offense...and it was effective, very effective.

yes Rogers ran the no huddle strictly from the shotgun...but he mixed up the shotgun formation...Split, Spread, Wide, Ace..etc..and he did it with the same personel on the field. This did not allow the defense any time to get set and/or make adjustments without calling a timeout. I graduated from Consol in '97.

This isn't meant to bash the other QBs, but I don't see how anyone other than the 6'3 junior you guys have starts. He is very athletic, and doesn't throw a bad ball either. I think he's got some real potential. I've seen 5 quarters of Consol live this year, and that's the guy I'd have in there starting just based on that.

I agree, Dominic Preston should be the starting QB. To be successful in the passing game, with the type of passing offense consol runs, we need an athletic mobile QB with a strong arm. The other QB's do not possess these talents. Consol rolls the pocket for nearly every pass...with QB's that dont fit the mold...they, if anything, should be drop back passers.
When consol passes...we really hurt ourselves becouse we basically take away half the field..which ever side we dont roll to because our QB's dont have the athleticism to throw across their body. Half this blame however needs to be placed on the coaching staff to not making a few adjustments to fit your quaterbacks strengths. Bottom line, for the offense consol wants to run, Dominic Preston is the best option at QB.

I agree...in high school football holding penalties can be called on every play...but they dont, they cant. At this level there is holding all over the field and they only call the "severe" ones, otherwise the games would never end. During a high school game both teams get away with numerous holding penalties.

Have you watched Kyle Gideon run? Did you see the Harker Heights game last year? Obviously not, because he saved the game for us by running down the sideline for a huge chunk of yardage on one play. He has the arm strength to throw anywhere on the field, I promise you. Now this year we haven't really showed that, but last year he consistently brought us back at the end of games. Chris has more touch than Kyle, and Dominic doesn't yet really seem to fit the QB mold. He's not really that accurate of a passer yet. Give him time and he will develop into a better QB, but that this time I believe either Kyle or Chris would be the best choice.

Kyle is fast, but he is not the best quarterback. He does have a strong arm, but I would say of our three qb's, he is the least accurate.
He did bring us back in several games, but you have to rememeber he also allowed us to get down in the first part. Im not trying to take anything away from him, but I just think Chris has proven himself to be the better of the two time and time again.

Yah I agree that Chris has been the best QB consistently this year. I was just replying to the other post b/c I think Kyle is our best running quarterback. When he takes off it seems that he is more able to find holes and get upfield faster. Chris is our most accurate passer, but he lacks arm strength due to his shoulder and elbow injuries. The other night against Bryan he underthrew Detron, but he also made several throws that were right on the money, and he hit Detron in stride down the sideline. As far as Dominic goes, I personally think he will be great in the future, but he just needs to get some varsity experience. He's not our best QB right now b/c he doesn't have the game experience that Kyle or Chris do. Next year I'm sure he will be amazing, I agree 100% with you on that. From what I've seen, he isn't yet quite as accurate as he could be, but I am confident that he will get better as time goes on. He will be a great QB next year and I'm sure colleges will begin to take notice of him once he lands the starting job.

Yea, Dominic is gona be awesome. I was talkin to him yesterday and he said that a couple of schools have already started talking to him. He is just one of those athletes that can play any position. Since 7th grade he has played cornerback, safety, running back, quarterback, reciever, and... believe it or not... kicker (he actually kicked the ball about five yards into the endzone during 8th grade... pretty impressive)

Yah he's a great athlete, on the football field and on the basketball court. Right now he could play several spots, but he needs the experience at QB since we'll be lacking at that particular position next year.

Yes I saw every game LAST YEAR and Kyle is not the same QB he was LAST YEAR.

so if they dont huddle, but they dont run the no huddle offense, then what do they run?
read my post...I said the "concept" of the no huddle. When you allow the defense to make adjustments and/or substitutions, you are not running a true no huddle offense, you are just calling the plays from the sidelines. No difference.

We'd all probably agree that to go to a true no-huddle, things would have to be sped up a bit every play. To me, calling the right play is more important to me than just calling a play quickly. And when they want to speed things up, they have the option to do it and not take guys out of their normal routine. Your other option is to rotate players in with the play. A lot of teams use wideouts for that function, but you really want your best guys out there all the time, not necessarily rotating. Also, why have your player running 25+ yards to bring the play in quickly? Just signal them in and run the play.
I do like that the guys huddle when they're near the goal line about to score or backed up facing a 90+ yard drive. You certainly want to all be on the same page in those situations.
They use a lot of formations. Then you have to make sure you have the right personnel out there. That sometimes takes time. The various formations force the opposition to defend you in different ways. So if they have more to work on in preparation, that's good for us. Come the playoffs, who knows what you'll see.
As long as they keep winning, it's a moot point. Sometimes you just have to trust your coaches. But I guess that would render internet message boards pretty useless and boring, huh?
I'm a self-confessed homer. My family could live anywhere in TX, as my job wouldn't really care. I have liked what I've seen in this program since Slaughter was hired. If not, we'd have moved a long time ago.
Time to get off this thread and look to next week.

Heck, I'm an old fart and I can kick the ball 5 yards, into OR out of the endzone!

At the quarterback position, I agree that Chris is the best choice right now. If you watch the one deep pass play to Detron up the sideline, you'll know why. It was right on the money. In the future, Dominic will be an explosive player to watch. Honestly though, I just don't see us being to great next year. I think that we lose too many key players. We'll make the playoffs, but Dominic will be the main reason why.
By the way, has anybody watched Matt Szymanski kick at an A&M game lately. It seems that his leg is just dead. All of his kicks land on the 10 yard line and two weeks ago he had one that went about 10 yards out of bounds. Why can't he kick the ball through the gaolposts like he did in high school. Correct me if I 'm wrong but I think it's b/c in college if you miskick a kickoff which you are trying to kick through the endzone, the receiver will catch it short and on a line drive and have time to set up a return. Anybody know?

well my guess is that its a lot harder kicking in front of 100,000 people than it is kicking in front of 10,000. You gota imagine all the pressure he has on him, especially with him leaving highschool a year early

I've talked to Matt several times since he's been at A&M, and he's told me that they're trying to completely change the way he kicks the ball. They're trying to get him to kick it higher and completely end-over-end. This makes him kick the ball shorter. If they would allow him to do what he did in high school, he'd still be kicking it out the back of the endzone. Everyone needs to get off his back and give him time, once he's used to all the changes he'll be back to kicking it out of the endzone and making 50+ yard field goals.

I agree, hes still young and he has plenty of time to develope. Once he gets used to kicking this new way, or once they let him do things his way, he will probably be the best kicker in the nation.

Wow, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Who cares if the ball is end over end if it's sitting in row 5 on every kickoff?

That's exactly what I thought. But maybe they're just trying to make him better for the future. I don't know really, but for now they should let him kick the way he was VERY successful in high school.
