Crazy but...
And all perfectly legal within the recruiting guidelines set by the NCAA. According to bylaw 13.4.1.2, "electronically transmitted correspondence (e.g., electronic mail, Instant Messenger, facsimiles, pages, text messaging) may be sent to a prospect."

Crazy but...
Yeah..maybe I should have read it all first...Since it's out in the open now I can almost bet the NCAA will try to crack down on it.

I doubt they will crack down on something they modified the rules to allow. Sounds to me like it would be annoying for the athletes.

If they are using derogatory terms in there text messages...the NCAA will be all over this. So just don't mention sitting indian style, giving indian burns,The Redskins,Seminoles....any of that stuff.

I think they might modify it for amount and time of day, but that is probably it. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to recruiting as far as rules are concerned, but I always thought "no contact" period meant NO contact. Maybe they should just eliminate all correspondence (mail, email, texting) during this time?

Wide, unfortunately, indian style is already out. I told my 5 year old to sit indian style once last year, and she gave me a puzzled look. I showed her what indian style was, and she replied, "no Dad, that is sitting criss-cross apple-sauce." I can't believe the apple's lawyers aren't all over this!

sounds like a heck of a gray area...

I'd think you should respect that these guys are trying to get an education and play ball. Texting takes time away from other stuff.

I just heard about this a few days ago. Fairly suprised it is allowed.

I agree with the guy above, about no contact, meaning no contact.

The exact same thing happened to me last week. My daughter called it "criss-cross apple sauce" I said what?...what the heck is that? I believe as a descendant of the Cherokee tribe...my child should be able to say Indian style...I promise you my Granny would not have minded her saying it...and she was half Cherokee. Good grief....what the hell is criss-cross apple sauce?
And as a kid that suffered through being cross-eyed my entire childhood....I am offended by the whole criss-cross thing...hahaha

I am sure there are two former child rap stars with baggy clothes worn backwards getting royalty checks and laughing all the way to the bank!

I wouldn't be too thrilled to be slapped $.10 for every text message from a coach... especially if i wasn't interested... talk about annoying!
