Standout Hillcrest wide receiver Roger Young, who received five years of deferred adjudication last week on a felony aggravated robbery charge, will not be eligible to play football while he serves a 60-day term in an alternative school.
Dallas ISD spokesperson Sandra Guerrero said Young, a senior who was Hillcrest's leading returning receiver, will enroll at Village Fair Alternative School this week. The DISD student code of conduct requires a student to be removed from the classroom for a minimum of 60 school days if the "school [is] notified by police of a Title 5 felony."
The code of conduct defines a Title 5 felony as an offense committed against another person.
Young, 17, accepted a plea deal Friday that included a $2,000 fine, court records show.
The 6-2, 185-pound Young, considered a Division I-A prospect, participated in Hillcrest's scrimmage Saturday against Molina. Young practiced Tuesday afternoon, when The News initially inquired about his status after receiving an anonymous tip. Guerrero said the process to send Young to alternative school began Tuesday afternoon.
Hillcrest coach Clayton George and principal Marty Crawford declined comment, deferring questions to district spokespersons.

Saturday's scrimmage against Molina may be the last game Hillcrest receiver Roger Young (19) plays in this season.
Young declined to comment. His mother, Precious Young, and attorney, Calvin Johnson, did not immediately return messages requesting comment.
Once Young completes his alternative-school term, DISD policy does not preclude him from participating in athletics if he is academically eligible. DISD athletic director Troy Mathieu said that decision would begin with George and Crawford.
"He'd have to earn his way back," Mathieu said. "I don't know if that late in the season he'd get a spot."
Young is scheduled to return the week of the second round of the playoffs. Hillcrest, No. 10 in SportsDay's Class 4A area rankings, advanced to the second round last season.
Young was arrested March 27 in connection with a robbery committed at about 8 p.m. on March 13. According to the police report, two suspects robbed a man at gunpoint in a parking garage under a Dallas apartment complex while three other suspects remained in a car. The victim, a 25-year-old Hispanic man who declined comment, told police an assailant pointed a handgun and demanded his money and the other assailant punched him in the head before taking his wallet and cellular phone. The victim told police he had $50 in his wallet.
Rachel Horton, a spokesperson for the Dallas County district attorney's office, said Young remained in the car during the robbery and agreed to testify against the primary suspect.
