5A Titans looking For scrimmage

April 18, 2005 -- With Port Arthur Memorial having amended its 2005 non-district schedule last month, the 5A Titans are now searching for a scrimmage the weekend of August 26-27.

In March, the Port Arthur ISD signed a contract to bring Lufkin High School to Port Arthur for a non-district game during Week 3, at 7:30 PM on Sept. 9. Lufkin was originally scheduled to play at Tyler Lee during Week 3, and by switching its road game allowed Tyler Lee to accept an invitation to play a high-profile matchup in Ohio.

Memorial, which opposed Tyler Lee in the 2004 East Texas Football Classic during Week 0, had openings on its 2005 schedule for either Week 0 and 3 for a 10th game. By hosting Lufkin on Week 3, Memorial's Week 0 slate is now a bye week - and would permit a scrimmage.

(For more on Tyler Lee's 2005 schedule, please click to http://texasfootball.com/05high_0327.html.)

(For the latest on UT-bound running back Jamaal Charles from Memorial -- who contrary to reports has academically qualified to play for the Longhorns, please click to http://texasfootball.com/05blue_0413.html.)

High school coaches/ADs interested in scrimmaging Port Arthur Memorial or adding Memorial to create a three-school scrimmage could contact Memorial head coach/AD Dean Colbert at 409-962-7331, or by e-mail at dcolbert@paisd.org.

The easiest thing is to play a team out of Houston that doesn't play in Week Zero. The alternative is to find a 4A school that you're not already playing.

they might have been the worst 5a texas football team in history last year. i think they averaged 3 points and gave up an average of 52 points. lol

Pasadena Memorial is getting too much of a break. Those guys were almost as awful in North Shore's district, but don't get the run United South does.

Scooter, if PAM is coached as bad as you say, let them play Pasadena Memorial. You can't lose that, can you? ;)

I would laugh if they did, but I bet it all comes down to speed. The Golden Triangle has had great athletes for a long time and coaching is their biggest hangup some years. PAM would be too fast and strong for Nixon, just like Judson is. That's why Judson dominates Region 4 track only to get dusted at state.

Nixon's boys arent big.....in fact they're really small, and they arent fast, well some of them are alright, but they straight up get after it and play hard.....

If it came down to speed Nixon wouldn't get the ball.

Cove and PAM would be some good competition.....but weve been stuck with Abilene the last 3 years which is even better though....
