The truth is JT has two fight songs(Tyler fight and Big Bad John). "Tyler fight" is used to open the game and Big Bad John is JT's theme song through out the game. BBJ is really JT's true fight song. The people in East Texas know it well LOL.

Yes. This song always comes before we yell: "Flush That John!" I really miss playing JT and Lee.

Well......
We didn't yell "Flush That John!" last Friday night because we (at least I) noticed a definite tempo change to Big Bad John. Made it difficult to shout the words in time to the music. Besides, the Cove folks didn't know about that little ditty :D
Thanks for the info. Tried to find it on Band Website (awesome one).
Again, thanks for an AWESOME game. No shame in losing like that.

the last few years Longview has played the theme song form The Lion King at the end of the game when we were up big against JT...."In the jungle the mighty jungle the Lioon sleeps tonight"

The Lobo Band has been playing that since I was in from 94-98. We started doing it, I believe, in the 96 or 97 football season. I do remember playing it, was probably my Senior year in 97 when it really started. Surprised we didn't hear it against Monroe Ouachita, they're Lions too. But, it's a bit of a harder song to learn than what they play earlier in the season.

Guys,
I hate to burst your bubble on The Lion Sleeps Tonight but the words "In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight" have been heard since BEFORE the 1975-76 school year. In fact, one of the JT Brigadettes Officers for the 1976-77 school year actually used it for a tryout song! Or was it the Officer from 75-76? I'm getting too old to remember the exact years. But, I was at the tryouts. :D
The song was originally written in 1939 by South African Solomon Linda and came to America in the 1940's. Nobody was interested until it was recorded in 1951 as a largely instrumental piece. Then in 1961, the Tokens first recorded the version we know now. It was the #1 song by Christmas of that year. In the days of vinyl records there was a Side A (supposed to be the hit) and a Side B song. The Lion Sleeps Tonight was the Side B song.
So, while I can only say I heard it in the 70's I am sure it has been in the Lufkin/REL/Texarkana/Nacadoches/etc., playbook for a long, long time.

The Lobo Band might've been playing it before I was in band, who knows. I just know that's when I first started hearing it, but that's also when I started to paying attention to the Lobos. I didn't go to games when I was in elementary or JH. Now I can't get enough of HS football.

It is a good rivalry that has changed a lot since the 70's for the better. I think both teams still really want to beat each other, but I don't see the town divided like it was back then.
