There was a thread about san antonio owning Houston schools. But on the basis of the city limits signs, what true schools, inside the "loops" have a true powerhouse programs. Katy, woodlands, Northshore, SV, SLC all are considered outside of the city. I'm just wondering about the other schools (I'm not talking about demographics) are playoffs contenders each year.

Even though NS is technacally outside city limits when I address my envelopes they say Houston!:D The Woodlands and Katy are suburbs of Houston like how Manhattan(sp?) is a suburb of NY. As for HISD having any power houses...???

lamar is inside loop 610 in houston.
i can't think of a school inside the "loops" that really dominates. the closest would be some of the dallas schools like carter and skyline, but i have no idea how close into the city center those are.

Nope, Lamar is inside the 610 loop, Westheimer @ River Oaks.
Also, North Shore HS is in the city of Houston. I checked.
In recent years, you have to go back to Madison (Vince Young), Aldine and Ike in the 90s, and before that Yates and Stratford in the 80s to find state contenders inside the Houston city limits.
Like in Dallas, the flight to the suburbs has impacted the quality of the high school athletic programs in Houston, and HISD is running on a shoestring.
San Antonio seems to have maintained some quality inside the city. Not sure why that is, demographically. Maybe one of our 26-5A brothers can explain why.

U r right I remember seeing the "Now enter Houston city limits sign" like 1 block b4 u hit the school. However North Shore Senior High, where most of our varsity players go, is not w/in the limits... I don't think.

So what are we talking here? In Houston area, at least 75% of the contenders are outside loop 610. I believe ALL oof 265a is outside the "loop" (or at least their real contenders). Dallas, I am unsure of....D.Cater? Now, are we talking about the latest Loops? The beltway....Grand Parkway.....where do we stop?:D

You almost correct, but Warren is actually outside of 410 but inside 1604

like how Manhattan(sp?) is a suburb of NY.
FYI: NYC is composed of 5 boroughs: Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Manhattan is considered the city (downtown) not a suburb. Staten Island is the most suburban-like.

It just doesn't get any more urban city center than Manhattan Island.

That's all true and Staten Island even votes Republican.

I didn't want to say the city limits sign, because you would get katy, clark and others. Technically you can say Roosevelt because it is right on the loop. I know madison had VY and was great, but i didn't know if there was any other such as Yates and Aldine in 80's

Technically Aldine was just moved into the "city limits" in the mid 90s. Before that, they were still in the county.
We talked about this earlier..."INSIDE the loop is booming now" so they future may look better for schools like Lamar. Westside is technically outside the loop and the beltway. If you drive around the Third Ward/UofH areas you will see alot of expensive high rise communities being thrown up so I will say in the next 10-15 years...Yates may eventually have a different look, which COULD be good. Lamar,Bellaire and Westside will continue to dominate HISD year in year out.
