Only question now is, Garland or Carter,#2. #1 is a given

I would have Trinity at #2, then Garland #3 and Carter #4. #1 of course is SLC, who can make histrory if they reach State for the 4th consecutive year. This has never been done at 5A - offcially. SLC will probably go D2, Trinity will go D1. So would never meet. Same with Garland, who would go D1. Carter could meet SLC in D2, but there would only be one winner there.

Yep Carter would pull the major UPSET!! ;)
All jokes aside, if did Carter make it that far, don't you think they would be competitive enough to challenge "Green Day" considering they would have had to beat Cove, Longview, Lufkin, and the other head knockers in Region 2 to get to that point?

Carter at #2 over Garland? Are you serious? Does 33-7 ring a bell? :D

Not particularly....
But if you're referring to the shalacking Carter received from Garland last year it was 37-7.
I will guarantee you that won't happen again.
Nevertheless, I think Garland is #2. And they should be.
A message to Garland: DON'T LOOK PAST DESOTO LOOKING FORWARD TO ENNIS AND CARTER!!

Just thought about something "..but there would be only one winner there."
usually that is the purpose of playing: to get a winner. ;)

if you've seen the outdoor shows where the bighorn sheep butt heads time and again, you'll know what to expect if you attend this slugfest. there'll be some headaches after this one.

I dont like to be ranked that high to be honest... being the underdog is more of the Garland mindset that I like better.... I think the last time we were ranked this high at any point we had that unmentionable game against one of those east texas teams... :(... ive been trying to remove it from my memory... :(

haha garland wont look past anyone in preseason... every game gets harder. Plus Desoto has beat garland the past 2 years... so its time to get things back the way they were. GO OWLS, GO TECH!

I think Carter, DeSoto, and Ennis are close. Last year the Owls went all out and did well in non district, but those first four games would drain any team. I hope they "peak" in December this year. Plano East has been down for a few years, but watch for them to come on strong Friday night.

You guys should try it!! Everyone knows you can handle it!! How about this for a SLC non-district:
Tulsa Union or Jenks
Longview
GP Northshore
De La Salle

the t-u game has been brought up by fsn and is considered. the others would be ok except why travel when there are great games against great opponents right in one's backyard. you certainly can't fault the results of slc's recent non-district schedule. if non-district counted somehow towards seeding in the po's, you'd see a different approach. until then, i'll go with whoever coach dodge skeds.

Dont have to go out of state for some tests for SLC. How about:
Longview
Carter
Garland
Lufkin

first off, we can only play 10 games per uil rules, so 3 is plenty. and we have tried to play lview 3 times and they kept not showing up. lp came twice and they were a very worthy opponent. garland would be great some years and iffy others(see spread fiasco). i would like to see a l-v game, but again why travel 150 miles if you can get the same effect with a 30 minute commute? tv money may dictate some travel in the future, if it gins up.

If i would have to guess, this is how I would rank the hardest games....
1. Desoto- Its away and we have lost the last 2 years.
2. Ennis- Its away, and we squeeked out last year.
3. Carter- Its home, but the Red Storm will be looking for a big W.
4. Plano East- Its home and PESH has been down.

I would love the chance to play SLC, but I think that winning streak would continue... Dont get me wrong, I'm a huge Garland supporter, but I honestly do not see Garland winning that matchup... that spread offense is just too potent, and we have had trouble with spread offenses in the past....
It would be fun to watch though...

It seems the teams that have done well against them were those that first of all, hit them in the mouth and secondly was able to score well. Many teams were not able to do both long enuff!!

I akseed my journailsim teacher today, who used to vote on teh DMN poll, and he said that he'd bet that Carter will beat out Garland because if a Dallas team is good, then they're going to overrate them just about every time.

i think a team like 02 arlington had a chance if they had been able to keep throwing wrinkles at the defense, but once the proper adjustments were made, they had nothing else to offer. sam houston would have won had they not changed their ball-control offense every time they got to the red zone. we had no success against their mid-field offense, and lots vs their short field changes. a modicum of luck and lots of belief in your system, which better be capable of scoring and/or keeping the slc defense on the field will go a long way towards getting a victory.

I think Carter and Ennis are 1A and 1B, followed closely by DeSoto, then PESH. All four are certainly capable of beating the Owls. DeSoto has had our number the last couple of years - their athleticism always gives Garland fits. PESH has a salty defense, which might be a large factor in a game where Garland is trying some new offensive wrinkles. Ennis and Carter are top level programs who feel they have something to prove against Garland (when was the last time a Carter team this talented came into a game feeling they had something to prove- maybe in '88 against Perminan?).
A matchup with SLC was averted two years ago when we lost to Allen in the wind tunnel game. I think we would have advanced all the way to meet SLC that year, if we'd have won in OT.
dd - I agre with you on the traveling point. Out of state matchups are fun for fans and good for message boards, but I think they are overrated distractions. As much as I am looking forward to seeing how the Raiders matchup with an elite Ohio team, it all seems kind of pointless when Lee could have played 10 teams from Texas of equal stature.

I would have loved for Trinity and SLC to play - simply because of the tremendously different styles. Outside of ET - I don't see anyone in the Metroplex coming within 21 of the Dragons.
Is Denton Ryan in a complete rebuilding mode this year. Can't remember where KT put them?

But the ET defense is still unproven... we dont even know if they can contain a potent offesnse like SLC... scoring shouldnt be a problem with an awesome tandem backfield.

they have some good people coming back with huge holes at qb and on defense, and still no size at rb. they will be a work in progress. it wouldn't shock me to see them twice again this season. coach joflo is as good as they come. they will be a terror in 4a again next year.

Preseason rankings are silly, but they give us all something to talk about until the season starts. Take care of business on the field and everyone will know how good you are.

I would tap the brakes just a bit, I have been an ET believer the last couple of years and they have underachieved..... this year could be different, but I have to see it.
Aside from the victory over a stripped down REL team last year, they go into the big bucket of pretty good teams...

NEW RULE:
Coppell fans can't call anyone over-rated.
Does the scoreline of No. 14 Coppell 17 to 28 for unrated Jesuit ring any bells? If not, you should get a reminder in a few days.
(Bill Maher fans should get this)
Garland is deserving of the No. 2 or 3 rating. Number one, you really can't comment on anyone's rating before they have played a game. Before you call them over-rated, wait to see what they do against DeSoto. Garland have a good chance of winning DI (if they get through Bi-district), and should be considered one of the top 3 Metroplex teams until they lose.
As it is a preseason rating and not a postseason one, Carter is also deserving of the top 3 rating. I assume they'll have a great regular season as they always do, and then "under achieve" in the playoffs. But until they do so, they deserve the rating.

Great post Ranger!! I think we've got something with this "under achieve" thing!
From now on, no team will be over rated just underachievers!!
