7. Katy
8. Pearland
9. Lamar
10. Aldine
11. Westside

Where is Ike...where is Nimitz...I dont think Aldine is the best team in that District.

Katy should be above Woodlands, Cy Falls and Hightower.

That is still a trip...Lufkin considered Houston area. I guess technically they are right like I said before. It's just kind of weird.

Only because they are playing Houston teams.

Victoria is not in Corpus, but they include us in rankings.

How can Katy be #7 and we are #3? Not to mention North Shore is also below us who we have never beaten!! That is EXACTLY why we get called overrated every year!! STUPID!!

I think they are a little messed up there at the Chronicle. I love the Aldine Mustangs, but I don't think they are #9 in the area. Not unless something drastically changed from last year that I don't know about...

:) Personally, I like this poll :)

However, I am of the school that no poll means anything until it is the FINAL poll. It's fun to follow them though.

Wow...A mustang agrees with me....I think you have to put Memorial, Ike and Nimitz above Aldine in the district...that confused me too.

I know screwy things when I see them. IKE nor Nimitz are on that poll at all. I agree with Cy-Falls, the final poll is all that matters, but that makes me think that something did change at Aldine. Maybe the second year coach can do something with the talent? It really is weird not having good ole Bill on the sidelines...lol

Yeah, I graduated in 99. My brother graduated in 93, and was there for the National Championship team. Those were the days. I was only in Elementary, but I can remember everyone going crazy. It was like we were in one of the small towns, all the elementary and middle schools that fed into Aldine were caught up in the spirit. Anyway, let me wake up now...lol. He was one of the best coaches I have ever known, and he really was a nice guy, you just had to break down the 20 foot think wall around him. I remember when I graduated, I had never really talked to him, but he knew me, of course, and he just hugged me when I was walking across the stage. Caught me totally of guard. But, he is a nice guy deep down. And when they names the Auxiliary Stadium for the district in his honor, that was a proud moment. He actually teared up!

Yeah...that undersized secondary was physical...the put us out of the playoffs at Rice Stadium. Kingwood then reminded me of Katy today.

If some of you guys are keeping up with my posts...you see that I rep a few schools...played at a couple of schools. So do give you an understanding...I went to 3 different High schools in 4 years. My Freshman and Soph. year I played for Houston Reagan....Beat Waltrip when Waltrip was "THE 'Trip" we started of 5-0 and was ranked for like the first time in 100 years. Due to family moving I then played my Jr. Year at Elsik...Had a few backs named Prancer and Dancer(Nathan Campell and a young guy named Kalief Muhammad)...so I moved to corner, then after the 3rd game of my Senior year...transferred again...this time to Eiseinhower...was too upset to play football...tired of moving...besides they werent good that year...this was a couple of years before Clarence Cruise.

Another entertaining Chronicle HS sports read...

Cy Falls and Hightower are easily the two most overrated in that poll as far as I'm concerned. Falls has some talent on offense, but the guys they lost on defense played a huge role on their success last year. Replacing Joe Bell, Andre Sexton and Ricky Price won't be easy.

Hightower has a new head coach for the first time, and still need to find an offense. Every year they have a decent defense, but lack of offense keeps them from taking the next step. It looks like more of the same story this year. Good defense and ?s on offense.

Memorial is ranked too low.

Based on what The Woodlands has back from a slightly above average team last year, I'm not sure they belong that high to start but we'll find out a little bit more about that this weekend.

Katy at #7 doesn't really surprise me. The Chronicle seems to really underrate the Tigers every season at this point, and don't cover the Tigers during the season until they are forced to during the playoffs. The Tigers have outscored Hightower 93-27 in their three meetings so far (31-9 avg victory, all in the playoffs), and you also have the whole six Region 3 championships in the last eight years thing...but yall know about all that. No big deal.

Lufkin shouldn't be in any Houston area poll regardless of which district they are in.

Im really not shocked at this poll. North Shore and Katy never get recognition from the chronical. I really dont pay any attention to anything the chronical puts out because they give the same teams credit every year no matter what they look like. To me id put ns, katy, westfield top three dont know in which order but id probly have to go with 1.) westfield 2.) katy 3.)ns just because of how they finished up last year. followed by:
4.)pearland
5.)woodlands(in front of cy falls cause of past experience)
6.)cy falls
those are my fav. for the houston area i dont really know much about the others except for elsik and ill just have to wait untill friday before i can say anything about them.

That's the Chronicle!!!!!! Katy has always been overlooked by the Chronicle except, as KT said, when they have to give us our due during playoffs.
At least ya'll are thought of very well by the Chronicle sports staff!! Plus you guys are supposed to have good team this year.

Ike will have to prove themsleves on the field, starting this weekend with A&M Cons., to get the states respect back. The Eagles finished strong last year and have good talent returning soooooooooooo watch out H-town...........................IKE is hungry!!

Agreed.....the Dallas Morning News doesn't include the Tyler schools in their area polls even though they are in a district with Metro teams. Lufkin is twice as far from Houston as Tyler is from Dallas.

Think I have to agree here on Falls. It would be nice if at the end of the season they up there in that spot. But for now, #4 is way too high for them. I have not seen the eagles this year yet, but unless they came up something really special that I have not heard about...........Anyway, the next three weeks should give us a fair read on this year's fighting eagles. Bryan, Westfield, then Cy-Fair.

The only reason for the early write-up in the Chronicle is because it's the main Houston area game this week. (being at Reliant does not hurt) It's probably the last one until the playoffs.

It was just a scrimmage, but Katy looked good against Kempner. Look for Will Thompson to be the best all-purpose player in the state. The only thing he lacks is size.
