From article:
Shows chuckled when asked for his thoughts on the Longview game, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, in Shreveport.
I really do have to wonder if he (coach Shows) will be "chuckling" after that 09-03 spanking they get?
I just dont think WM will be able to hang with Longview after the 1st quarter.

Coach Shows at West Monroe was Coach King's O-Line coach in college. A lot of what King does offensively was gotten from Show's and West Monroe. There is a bit of history there!

Ok. Good for them.
That still doesnt change the fact that WM is going to be schooled on how the game is played.
King may have gotten the idea from Shows, but from what I've seen the last few years, it has been perfected over in Longview.
Again, WM doesnt stand a chance. They will be lucky if they are able to hang past the 1st quarter.
WM is sub-par compared to Longview.

I definitely agree that Longview is the favorite, but I'm not ready to count out West Monroe completely. Their defense is outstanding.

I'm with you on this one Clean. If West Monroe's QB is allowed to play (which it sounds like he is). This game could be the biggest upset to start the year off with.
I think Longview is going to have to be able to make some key passes in the game to keep pressure of the running game because WM is going to stack the box with probably 9 players to help shut the run down.
This game is going to be interesting to say the least.

Well. You all can just mark it down right now. Redneck'n says "no way". I just don't think WM has it together enough to hang. I will stretch a little and say that for 1st half it may be close. But after the teams come back out, it will be ALL LONGVIEW.
I may be way off here. But, just know that there is no love lost between me and either of these teams and I just dont feel like WM can pull it off. I think they'd like to though.
I also dont really feel like the new QB at WM is going to do much of anything great for a few games.
I think I want to see that game more than the ECA/Springdale game.
WM is too cocky and they cant back it up. Longview is way beyone cocky. But I am pretty sure they can back it up.
Just one mans opinion though. :)

Hey, dont get me wrong. I'm no fan of West Monroe at all. I know Coach Shows in the past years has done some classless things (unsportman things) that coaches shouldnt do.
But, I cant take anything away from the players. It looks like they (West Monroe) do have some solid blue-chip talent on the team and I know they're well coached. It should be a pretty good game and whoever wins the turnover battles will most likely win the War.

I did pick Longview to win on the Louisiana Rivals site, but West Monroe looked good at their scrimmage. The secondary is WM's weakest spot on defense, although they aren't bad in the defensive backfield.
I think it's going to be a hard-hitting, close game. The 4A team that WM scrimmaged didn't have much success moving the ball, but they did make a nice long run on a misdirection play. If WM overpursues on D, then McGee could break some long ones.
Longview's passing game is weak at best. If #11 is at the QB position then watch out. He has the best arm of the two. When & where is this game?

Weak at best?...If you say so but I hope your coach doesnt think that.
Game is September 3rd, 7:05, Independent Stadium

Ya, dont get me wrong. I'm rooting for Longview 100%. I just think they're going to miss Wr-M. Kelley (Oklahoma) more then they think.
I also think they will miss both of those CB's from last years team. ( Pierce & Hunter) because they made alot of plays on defense and had good speed to stop alot of stuff.
I think they will have to make at least 12 to 15 pass attempts to keep West Monroe honest and hopefully they can connect on at least 6 to 7 of them for some positive yardage.
I really see this game being alot closer then alot of people think. Especially the Longview people.

I dont see how missing Kelly will be that big of a factor.
He wasnt even the big reason we were good at all last year. Sure he was there for some long plays, but look at his stats last year. Nothing compared to what he was in 03.
The game is going to be a good one no question, I just see Longview pulling away in the 2nd half. How much I dont know just see us winning it in the 2nd half.

I hope you're not going off what you saw in the scrimmage....our 1st string was bearly out there. And yes #11 has a great arm....when he is in with the 1st stringers, watch out. Longview will be better at passing the ball this year than we have in 3-4 years.

Just wanted all of you Longview people to know what is being said elsewhere.
This is from some other site.
NO ONE, I REPEAT, NO ONE RUSHES THE BALL AGAINST WEST
MONROE. You can throw against them, but NO ONE runs on them. They've
gone against a lot better backs than the guy at Longview and come out
with lopsided victories.
I sure will be glad when Longview shut WM up. :D

has wm been playing some college teams and we didn't know about it? just who are these better backs? maybe after the game, lview will want to change their mascot to "nobody".

For WM's sake I hope that is a very isolated statement....man if they don't realize how good our RBs are then they are in for a very long night. Even when you know what is coming it can be difficult to stop.

IT IS TIME TO START WORKING ON MISDIRECTION PLAYS, FAKE HAND OFFS AND SWING PASSES....I THINK THE FAKE HANDOFF AND THE OVER THE TOP TO THE TIGHTEND WILL LOOSEN UP THE D-LINE...I THINK THIS IS A CHANCE FOR LONGVIEW TO REALLY DISPLAY A PASSING GAME AND STILL GET MCGEE HIS TOUCHES AND ALSO IVORY...IF THE PASSING GAME GETS OFF LONGVIEW WIN EARLY, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY SENDS A CLEAR MESSAGE THAT STACKING TO LINE TO STOP MCGEE WILL COST YOU...SWING PASSES TO IVORY FAKE HANDOFFS WILL BE BIG IN THIS GAME...

hey LP78----carlin throws just fine, not worried about that at all...if he can't find anyone to throw to, he will sure as hell run on your *** in a heartbeat!! you were at the scrimmage, right?? i seem to remember a 40 or 50 yard run that he broke away on against that "state-ranked" defense of yours--LOL....not to bad, huh??
Yes, he can run the ball. But passing it, is another thing. He tends to sling the ball. The other QB is taller & has a much better throwing motion, plus he's more accurate of a passer. Yes, I was there. Longview has a good team as usual. Great running game & defense. Last year I was there@ SFA. If Longview would have had a decent passing game. ITS OVER! IMO if Longview ran their I formaton+ passing game like Tyler Lee, Longview would be unstopable. But you have to develope QB's that can pass the ball. Not just run it. Hopefully both teams will meet again this year in the play offs. No excusses, win or go home!

yea, i do agree with you on Miles being the better "passer" of the two, but the "smarter" QB is who wins games......as for Tyler Lee's style of offense that they run, they can't be that "unstoppable"?? they got stopped by you guys and us---so, it not exactly an unstoppable style of offense....as for SFA last year(oh, God--i didn't mean to get this subject going again)it wasn't the passing game that hurt us against you guys....you said that it would have been "over" if we would have had success in the passing game?? brother, it was over without the passing game....we were running through that defense like swiss cheese--you were there, you can attest to that, right??? the 4 crucial fumbles is what did us in, and put the final nails in the coffin---not the passing game......if you're having success running the ball, killing out the clock, and putting points up on the scoreboard, why even think about passing??? i believe it was pack0808 who was talking about spread offenses in other threads...if you have had great success in a running style type of offense, why even change things up and try to start passing alot?? if it's not broke, don't fix it.....i believe you should pass a few times to keep the defense guessing, and that's the type of offense that we run--i'm satisfied.....with Chris Ivory and Vondrell Mcgee in the same backfield, i like our chances of being a "running" team anyday of the week.............
Bleed, my point about Tyler Lee's style of offense, was based on Longview's athlete's. To be able to run the ball as well as throw it. Misdirection, motion, draws & screens would be tough as ..... with Longviews talent. The problem with having a QB (Leader)that can only run the ball, is when you get behind late in a game & everyone knows he can't throw it.He looked like he was running for his life last year. Your right about the fumbles. Someone made the comment about Kelly not being a factor for Longview's offense last year. That say's a lot about your O. I know you have one heck of a running game. Just think what it was like for him to play in that offense. Better to have had him on your team than face him playing for SLC, Lee or Lufkin. Good luck against Marshall. :D

yea, again, i do agree with you on the misdirection, motion, draws, and screens.....Longview has never been a team that runs alot of motion or draws....as for the misdirection, every once in awhile you will see the offense do that...as for the screens, Longview has gotten better over the past couple of years with running them...that is something fairly new(a couple of years)...i have a feeling, just by watching the scrimmage against you guys, that we will be running alot of screens this season--more than ever.....yea, Malcolm wasn't much of a factor last year at all.....i could blame our QB for not getting him the ball enough, but those plays come in from the sideline...believe me, i was screaming all season to get the ball to malcolm and give Vondrell more touches during the game--they didn't listen--LOL......Vondrell averaged about 15 carries a game last season, and still rushed for over 2000.....i wanted him to get about 25 carries a game.....would have had a hell of alot more yards, and this would have ate the clock up in alot of games...if i was coach, he gets it at least 25-30 times a game..talent doesn't show up like that every year--use it while you still can, but that's just me--i guess that's why i'm not a coach??? as for malcolm, he already knew that he was heading to OU on a full ride. he really didn't give 100% each game, and i don't think he wanted to risk injury and screw his career up...i don't agree with it all, but that's what happened...we talked about it every friday night...he loafed when he didn't get the ball, and he would not downfield block at all---kind of reminded me of Randy Moss(who i can't stand).............thanks for the wishes against Marshall...good luck in your scrimmage with Humble(even though you won't need it--LOL)............
