Southlake football: TV ratings higher than Rangers, little less than Mavs
By David McNabb
www.dallasblog.com
Southlake Carroll's televised whupping off Shreveport Evangel last Thursday registered 61,000 viewers in Dallas-Fort Worth. That's better than the 43,000 the Rangers average and just less than the 68,000 the Mavs averaged last season.
Broadcast on KTXA-Channel 21, Carroll's 43-16 victory over Shreveport Evangel Christian delivered a 2.2/4 Household Rating/Share in Dallas-Fort Worth. This represents 52,000 Homes in the area and 61,000 Total viewers.
FSN reports the Rangers have averaged a 1.9 rating in Dallas this season while the Mavs averaged a 2.9 during last season.
Carroll's upcoming 2007 nationally televised matchup with Concord(Calif.) DeLaSalle could set ratings records. DeLaSalle will return a top junior QB and nationally rated linebacker next season. Carroll holds the mark for the highest rated high school broadcast in D-FW with 94,000 viewers (4.1 share) for its 2004 state final win. In '05, Carroll drew a 3.3 rating in its final and had a 2.4 rating in its '03 state final.

they would have been higher if we wouldn't have gotten the Ranger game in Houston.
Slorch- "Dear FSSW, how stupid could you be? do you really think we would rather watch the MLB team that we don't care about in this part of Texas anyway, or a prime high school football matchup?"
FSSW reply, " Duh-uh."

Why would they show a team in our Houston market, that, for 1/2 of the season is blacked out anyway down here. That is a funky marketing contract that lets them shut off the Rangers in their home market but forces it to markets that don't even care...
We should have been watching SLC- Evangel.

FSN shows Houston where you'd think you'd get Texas, too. I somehow get most of the games for both teams, but they weren't worth my viewing attention this year. BTW, SLC would have lower ratings if they had more games on TV and that was a big-name opponent, too.

How awesome would it be to see all fans in Texas show up for this game and sell it out. And, all wear green to deck it all out in green.
Get a corporate sponser to hand out green t-shirts to fans that don't have them on.

Obviously, you don't get to choose. Yes, we all know how many championships SV has compare to Judson, but if SLC would give someone else a turn, we'd have one by now too.
It's not like WE get to CHOOSE which year we a great team, so we can win it in a year that there isn't a dynasty hogging all the D2 titles and losing 1 game in 4 years, like SLC. Who's done that recently in D1? Has it ever been done in D1? If so, it was when I was a glimmer in my dad's eye.:D
Judson has their titles, props to 'em. When and if they ever knock off SLC (you may get your chance this year if things work out and SLC goes D1), you can dog us all you want for having ZERO. Beat the best, then dog us for losing in the finals. We tried twice and failed, but came close the 2nd time (closer than anyone not named Katy has EVER come in the last 5 seasons).
I'm actually hoping SLC goes D2 so we can have another crack at ending the dynasty. You know what they say: "Third time's a charm."

The only other team that was "in our way" was in 4A in 2001, Denton Ryan, who ran a very similar offense to SLC (no huddle, spread offense).
That accounts for our 3 trips to the state finals, 1 in 4A, 2 in 5A.

Southlake football: TV ratings higher than Rangers, little less than Mavs

FSN reports the Rangers have averaged a 1.9 rating in Dallas this season while the Mavs averaged a 2.9 during last season.
Carroll's upcoming 2007 nationally televised matchup with Concord(Calif.) DeLaSalle could set ratings records. DeLaSalle will return a top junior QB and nationally rated linebacker next season. In '05, Carroll drew a 3.3 rating in its final and had a 2.4 rating in its '03 state final.
Why is this such a big deal? The Rangers play like 3-4 days a week... SLC had their first televised game since December.... if the Rangers played a big game that was the only one televised, they might... might just beat that rating...

i believe without proof that br was referencing the ratings of a hs football game between a texas power and whoever vs the rangers, not slc specifically. i happen to know that there is a move afoot to create a series of texas hs games on a weekly basis, all of which will likely outdraw the hapless rangers(as opposed to the hapful sv rangers). just like more cowbell is a good thing, so is more hs football and less celebrity poker, or mud-bowling, for that matter.

the interesting comparison would be if they scheduled two Texas powers or SLC on the same day as say a Rangers/Yankee game or a Ranger/Red Sox game. Something tells me the Rangers might make it close if that were the scenario.

dont ever compare the BoSox with a Texas HS football team. Sure no one cares what happend prior to 1918, but the Sox won 5 World Titles from 1903-1918 including the first world series ever. Of course, for that to happen you guys need to stay in D2 this year. Don't worry though, like the SOX, SV will have their day in the sun too.

no, it's closer to 86 more DAYS, that's about 3 months for you mathematically challenged folk.;) Late December, everything will change. Until then, good luck to the Dragons, we'll be waiting for you at the Dome.

I think there are several programs that would be concidered dynasties now if it was not for the timing of having great programs during the same time as other's slightly better program. I think what SV has done since moving to 5A is almost as remarkable as what SLC has done. Lufkin could have had 3 state crowns as well but the have 3 losses to SLC. This list could include Abilene who had two undefeated season until they lost to SLC. Plano last year was undefeated until SLC. Katy could have 2 championships but lost one to SLC and can claim the only vicory over SLC in 4+ years.
Plano is down this year and Abilene is really down this year so they do not qualify as dynasties. Katy, Lufkin, and SV are all great programs that could have been as dominate as SLC if SLC was not having it's success.

is there a better team in the 00's without a title? i doubt it. other possible choices would be lview(no, really), abilene, midland, carter, twhs, and westlake.
interestingly, a ranger fan took umbrage at what i'd consider a compliment to start this round of hijinks. i guess i'll stop with the compliments if it offends others.

as the NY Post headlines read in 2004, "We'll See you in 2090" :D One of my favorite headlines after that World Series. I guess you all can tell SV you will see them in 2092.

No one took "umbrage" at the compliment you speak of. It was your next "compliment" that I took "umbrage" at:
a compliment, and only slightly back handed. i mean, the bills were the best team in the 90's never to win a super bowl, too.
Anytime anyone has used that "reference" in association with SV, it has not been in a complimentary fashion. Hence the "umbrage" taken.

i guess i could have said the the rangers were equal to the oilers, or the cubs, or some neer do well team. there are plenty of teams who'd love to have the wins/record the rangers have enjoyed. i guess the truth hurts. sv is still the best team, imo, to never grab the brass ring.

I guess on High School terms, SV would be this decades version of Arlington Lamar. Close on so many occasions only to be upended by the eventual state champ on many of those attempts.

I would think we'd have to lose 1 or 2 more 5A state finals before we could be compared to the Bills. As for the Oilers, and Cubs: when have they had any post season success AT ALL?
The Oilers are best known for being on the wrong end of the greatest comeback in NFL history (against those same Bills you lovingly compare us to with your "compliments"). Other than that, what have they ever accomplished?
Can't remember the Rangers ever blowing a 35-3 lead in the 2nd half to lose the game. Especially not while milking the clock in the 2nd half with long drives in classic Coach Hill fashion.;)

What we have here is a healthy rivalry, I'd say....It is fun to be a fan of, what is regularly, one of the top 5 teams the state.

Iremember Arlington Lamar thinking that same thing, but funny thing is they always ran into someone who was just a tad better. Permian in 88,89 and 91, Aldine in 90. MIdland Lee in 94, Marcus in 95, John Tyler in 2000 and The Woodlands in 2003. I really hope for your sake yall get your ring, you have a great program and a outstanding coach and good kids who play hard every game.

In '05, Carroll drew a 3.3 rating in its final and had a 2.4 rating in its '03 state final.
its too bad no one cares about baseball??? and basketball plays too many games to have a high high rating...i bet if you looked at the stas for mavs vs spurs it would beat the southlake carroll....
