No

In the scrimmage against Grapevine and they had 1 touchdown and we had 2. In the 12-minute quarter we played we lost 13-0. At first our offense was terrible but as the day went on we got better and by the end they couldn't stop us but we ran out of time. Defensively we could have been better as we blew about 5 or 6 coverage calls, as they had 2 huge plays of at least 60 yards because of it. In the quarter we almost stopped them at 4th and goal but they converted. They failed on an extra point because their reciever(Brad Faucett?) pushed off our corner on a 2-point conversion pass for the 150th time of the day and finally the refs called it, so the ball got moved back and the kicker missed the kick. The penalty ratio was bad, we had about 3 penalties to their 1. Overall the scrimmage was good considering it was our first time to play against a live team. Although I think Grapevine could have shown a bit more sportsmanship. Last year we got into two huge brawls when we scrimmaged and were warned by our coach before the scrimmage to back away, and Grapevine got dirty on every chance they could get and their coach let them. Luckily our players walked away and no fights were caused.

So, were you satisfied with your team's results this week, August 18-20?

I would say yes and no....we moved the ball offensively without any doubt and our defense didnt let Abilene in the endzone once(excluding goalline reps)...but im not satisfyed since i want to see more of what we can do vs. a good team...so thats why i cant wait till we play Judson...

Yes, the owls really surprised a lot of people with their effectiveness in the air (even though it was the starting offense) and although we were playing a rather weak team, our defense looked as good as always.

Ouch bro. I'm thinking that will rub the Abilene fans the wrong way and hit them pretty hard. Abilene is nothing short of a "good" team. On ours id say yes and no. Leander stopped the run very well today and the front 4 were getting good pressure on the qb. However we couldnt get the ball moving on the ground like i would have liked.

Don't know for sure, I went to see the Judson/Marshall scrimage and was not impressed by either team. Marshall really looked better than Judson, who has a major issue at running back and quarter back. Marshall was clearly the better team and still feel that Judson will finish 7-3 for the year. Way to go Marshall you showed why you should be on of the top 5 teams in South Texas. You read it here Judson is way overrated this year, this from someone that has no ties to either team.

Consol D handled Tomball IMHO for most of the scrimmage. In the quarter at the end, it was entertaining. Tomball had a short yardage TD called back on a penalty, Tiger D got a second chance and held them. Tiger Offense got the ball on the 2 and drove back down to about the Cougar 20 when time ran out. There was little doubt that Consol would have nailed a kick had they gone for it. If you looked at first teams versus first teams, the score would have been 17-7 I'm pretty sure.

It was a lot of fun to see these guys finally back in pads playing someone. ;)

I don't know much about Tomball, but their defense looked a lot more solid than their O. Both teams were getting the kinks out.

San Angelo Central dominated San Angelo Lake View on both sides of the ball. Central scored 7 times (2 touchdowns called back for holding) and Lake View didn't score at all.

Central scrimmages San Antonio Taft next Thursday.

How was Marshall better than Judson? Marshall scored 0 touchdowns and only one first down the entire scrimmage. Judson scored two touchdowns and was driving in for another when the scrimmage ended. Gimme a break.

Marshall was better than Judson? Take off the the glasses Texas Red...... Escamilla spent most of his time on his back..... (not necessarily his fault perhaps the O line) and Judson had it's way against the oft mention linebacker Stevenson....... Judson was not only quick to the ball but they had scoreboard as well.......and I am not a Judson fan.

Yeah.....the only scrimmage I saw, I wasn't exactly 'pleased'. Offense was good, just defense was lacking one thing. This is Reagan btw.

MacArthur's went ok. Defensively they were where I thought they would be after watching most of the practices this spring and the last two weeks. They are small but very quick to the ball. They will rely on team D. Offensively they were shooting themselves in the foot. The center/QB exchange was bad. Three fumbles! Both the RB's looked good but the starter had a great 65yd TD run that went from one side of the field to the other. The problem with it is he started trying to do it every other time he touched the ball. :( The WR's looked good but the QB is stuck on Jr Richards to much. Needs to use all his weapons. The backup QB had to picks and both were in double coverage. The O-line lost the battle IMO.

Reaganrattler07
08-20-2005, 11:42 PM
Maybe he doesn't have any other weapons besides Jr Richards?

LOL! No, they do. We looked at film tonight and I would say a little of the problem was Seguin winning the line of scrimmage. He had guy's open, especially the TE's but opted for Richards. The scrimmage was a good thing. It tells you were you are and what needs to be addressed.

Hmmm, I don't remember trying to make a joke. Just some insight onto a team I couldn't go and watch.

What recievers do they have returning?

you know saying that grapevine wont be that good this season, bell has alot of work todo...Coppell won there game 80 somthing to 14....like if you counted up all the scores from the scrimmage, and there the simulated half....

Moody only played 10% of the plays

Lonny was not trying to discredit Judson, just is what I feel. I have taken uo for them on this board in the past few week, but feel that they are overrated. You know that you have concerns like at Rb and QB like all Judson fans. I also know that they will not get away for throwing for like 500 yrads in a 10 game season again and was one of the major reasons they lost to Spring, and you know that that is a fact. I am not here to give or discredit anyone I am onlt giving you valid points like them or not.

I was very pleased with the SV scimmage Bryan Hill was completing his passes started out like 6 for 6 thought it was against SA Southwest who didnt even get a first down till it was 3's vs 3's Sendejo had back to back interceptions trent rios is the next coming of mark mecke with his quickness but is goign to be as good as clint haney. The D looked amazing.

Now be serious, how would Smithson Valley benefit from beating up a school that isn't half as good as them?

Now Southwest could probably benefit cause they played a tough team to get them ready for their season.

Redskins, sorry I couldn't get back last night. On the WR's at Mac, we have Jr. Richards and Dre Odom returning. Hasse and Bernal are backups and the slot. TE will be a sophomore and I promise you he'll get district recognition when the season is done. This kid just catches everything thrown his way and can block to boot. So they do have some options. Hopefully the QB will use them.

Don't know who he is but I do think he could put up numbers like Ian Harris (Churchill) and Johnny Moore (Marshall). The kid just turned 15 in May and he's 6'2 and 190.

Oh well, in 1999 he was one of mac's best players...although he did technically lead ot their downfall one year...dropped a pass in the endzone, kicking mac outta the playoffs one year....can't remember which.

bhs06 I have a question regarding the dedication of yuour teammates this year......First of all I would like to say I am glad to hear that no one was seroiously injured by the gunshot on Friday night/Saturday morning. But what in the WORLD are they doing out at a party the night before a game (even a scrimmage) It is my understanding that 2 Bell players received minor wound after being blasted at by a shot gun....... The other player I believe scrimmaged Saturday against Grapevine, yet you claim that all is right at Bell with the new coaches. This world is changing, but both players should be punished for poor judgement that reflects badly on their teammates and Bell HS. How can a new coaching staff establish any confidence in the community when they play players that are out the night before a game(scrimmage ) and get shot. Unfortunately it is the same old story at Bell regardless of who is coaching. It is the character that is in question and this is why I don't have a lot of faith in your 8-2 prediction. I wish you the best, but as I said earlier, The MENTALITY of the entire team must mirror what you desire, and most of your teammates DON'T CARE about it the way that you do. 8-2 is impossible at Bell.at least in that order. maybe 2-8 is more realistic. If you can get the majority of your team to believe as you do, you have a chance.....It has been tried to be corrected over the past three or more years, but they have failed to get others to follow. Bell is full of leaders, but they are not leading in a POSITIVE direction and that can not be disputed. It is not a coaching issue as much as a parental issue and Bell parents are not what they used to be..............

bell grad dad:

There were more than two players involved I am sure. The principal and head coach took each person involved and had a chat with them today. But one thing is that a good portion of our team are people who live in a bad community, with either no parents, or parents who don't care much, or whatever. It is pretty bad, like a gang-type enviornment. But I would say compared to last season, the number of partiers/drug/alcohol users and gang members on our team is down. Last year, it was around 75-80%(no joke) and now its more at 40-45%. Many of the returning have quit or been kicked off, I have heard of many of them off to rehab. But each high school team is going to have its alcoholics and drug users and types like that. I'm sure even the state champions at Tyler Lee and Carroll have partiers who are alcoholics and smoke marijuana. It is just high school life. I myself do not particpate it and I Cannot stand drugs/alcohol and teenagers who do it, it really makes me upset that people this age do it. It is not cool, it shows that you are irresponsible and stupid. I have even called the police on 2-3 parties in my high school days. This got many people angry at me, but also got many people to respect me.

I and others do our best to lead people away from it, but will it work? Even the "leaders" of our team participate in it, not saying any names. Not to mention it is intmidating, as the people who are involved aren't people you would want to mess with. But the ones on our team who don't try to influence right, but there isn't much we can do. You can't follow them around all night. Remember, this was a Friday night and none of this will go on on Thursday nights because they can't be out late if they want to go to school the next day for the Friday game.

One thing I know of this year is that we won't be able to leave campus before games. Food will be provided. No more pre game kegger parties or marijuana smoking like years past.

But you are right, the whole team has to have the same mentality of making the right choices to succeed. It angers me that team mates still continue to pull this off. I agree that everyone involved should be punished to show that it is unacceptable, but I am sure the interogations led to lies and such to keep theirselves out of trouble.

It is nice to have another Blue Raider on this message board, to talk about our team and such. It should be a fun season to discuss regardless.

you are mature beyond your years...............keep up the fight, you may not win, but atleast you will have your self pride. I know the leaders you speak off and they are no LEADERS!!!! It will take Coach Olivo atleast another season to right the ship. Where you come from has some bearing on where you go, but being a man and doing the right things in life come from character and you can not just add that to the mix after 17 years of growing up without it.

Keep the Raider Spirit alive and I'll be watching you this season.......Prove me wrong and make me sign on every Saturday mroning to congratulate you. Even if the season doesn't go as you hope, you are doing the right thing and don't give in the the peer pressure of the other side. Good Luck

psh, you wont be congratulating him...sorry be realistic...%40-45 is a high number, even for high school athletes. Its on thing if they do it everynow and then AFTER the lights go out on friday night, but its another thing when its before the game and everyweek. I dont think players at winning programs go out and party as much, because they are dedicated to winning State, meny teams have Saterday morning film review/weight lifting to prevent such things...Chances are you guys will have another losing season, as will we. Sorry for the rant, but ive delt with both types of teams...2003 Coppells were a team that didnt do that kinda stuff, and 2004 team was the opposite...see the change between 8-3 and 4-6...

Correct, leadership is lacking not only in football but in all of our sports. Our baseball team: #6 in the state, no leaders, district loss to Trinity and first round exit in the playoffs. They thought they were all superstars, too good to care, and played as individuals and made "unfinished business" into "permanent unfinished business".

With Football, I would say we have one TRUE leader. One guy can't do it all. By true leader I mean making the right choices and setting a good example while being a vocal leader as well. The other "leaders" that our coaches think are leaders aren't really leaders. They just are fakes. I hate to be bashing on my own team but its true.

i have to say that was another one of Coppells Problims last year...we had talent, just nobuddy steped up in the locker room...I remember when our "leader" (no names) was in the locker room during a rain daly and going around, "guys stay focused we gotta come out here fired up and ready to go" then about 10mins later he was over heard loadly saying "Hey I gotta by a 12 pack of bud after the game"
