For those interested, let's try to keep scores updated.

USA - 1
Europe - 1

Woods/Furyk won their match, while the Euros trounced the US in the second match. The next two matches are all square through to the back 9.

USA - 1, 1/2
Euro - 2, 1/2

Not looking good early, Mickleson/DiMarco lost their match in the last few holes. Those guys are good and should have hung on for a half. Those lost halves are killers when you're the underdog.

Haha it was weird. I woke up this morning and as I was getting dressed, I noticed my dad watching golf. I was like GOLF? At 7:30 in the morning!? Ha...always have enjoyed the game in a sense...very relaxing. Somtimes I can go to sleep watching it.

Score unchanged for afternoon sessions - but not looking good for the US - Europe up 1 in 3 of 4 matches, the fourth is all square. Looks like a good afternoon would be 4 ties, but I don't see it.

Europe - 5
USA - 3

USA should be happy with the afternoon - one loss and three ties. They only had one victory on the day, and should have had two more ties. A slight moral victory for the US - who should, as always, dominate singles play on Sunday. Jim Furyk choked away the loss in the afternoon - Tiger gave him a perfect drive and Jimbo pulls the short iron into the water. That's a choke.

Europe - 7,1/2
USA - 4,1/2

All afternoon matches all square. Woods/Furyk lost again, so did DiMarco/Mickleson - that was probably the death knell. Only one US victory in the morning. If the USA can cut it beneath 3 that gives a shot tomorrow - but not likely.

The route is on - kiss it goodbye. Europe has gone ahead in most matches this afternoon - will likely be 11 to 5 after this afternoon. Every US player has played below expectations - no exceptions.

Lehman was a poor choice for captain.

It looks like it might be 10-6 Europe at the end of the day providing Tiger and Furyk do not blow a 2 hole lead in the next 5 holes

Since the rules were changed to include all of Europe in this competition, maybe we can recruit the Canadians , Mexico and the rest of the Americas. I think we need to.

I'm afraid if we look at population comparisons - that might be off-base. Yeah, maybe we pick up Mike Weir and someone else - but Tiger will now move to like 8-12-3 in Ryder cup - compare that to Sergio - he'll end up like 11-2-2 after this weekend. Puzzling to say the least.

The US looks shaky. Why did they choose Lehman to be their captain anyways? Nicklaus would have been a better choice.

That one I understand. They don't have any outside shooting. Hell Reggie Miller announced publicly that he was working out and wants a spot on the team. That's sad.
Why not put Michael Redd on that team. Hell anybody...what's Dale Ellis doing nowadays? Craig Hodges? somebody...good grief.

Europe 18 1/2 USA 9 1/2 . This equalled the worst loss of the USA, the score being identical to 2 years ago at Oakland Hills. But for all intents and purposes, it should have been the worst if not for Paul Mcginley's selfless act. He conceded an 18 1/2 foot birdie putt to JJ Henry, the result of which, the match was halved. Yes, this happened after the Ryder Cup had already been won. The thing is though, McGinley could have broken his goose egg in the win column for the tournament, but he didn't. I'm sure he was also aware that it would have been the biggest margin of victory. Europe winning the cup was enough for him. Perhaps, there lies the difference between the 2 teams in this particular format. I think the Americans go in with a mindset that as long as they're not the ones who screw up, then it's ok. That's not to say that they don't care about winning. I just don't think they go into it with the right approach.

Yeah- it's getting worse not better. Lehman was a horrid choice for captain -the guy has won like 5 tourneys in 20 years - wow. Three in a row for Europe - would be four if not for the miracle in Brookline in '99. Yes - I say name Nicklaus captain right now and pay him $3million a year to build a team.
