Shoot, the guy has been a player since he walked on campus at Ga Tech. He'll be a top #10 NFL pick if not higher.

Absolutely. The kid, now, has probably 350 yds receiving and 5 or 6 tds...in just 3 1/2 games. So far, he has 170 yds and 2 tds on the night.

I think VaTech and Clemson may be in for a rude awakening, when GTech rolls into their hometowns.;)

P.S. GTech, probably, should have beaten ND, the first week...they'd be in the Top 15-18, where they probably deserve to be.

Calvin Johnson has always been a freak. He was the best receiver last season, but didn't get too much attention.

At nearly 6'5 1/2 240 pounds he should have gotten more attention, last season. But there was just too much of an emphasis on the tracking of the USC and UT programs as they raced toward each other, being led by their Heisman hopefuls.

He is going to be an excellent prospect and could garner some Heisman attention, by the end of the season. Definitely a Top 10-15 pick, in the NFL Draft. (Lets just hope it's not Detroit picking first. Hate to see more Superb "Receiver" talent, waisted.;) )

Besides being a true freak, he seems to be a humble, hard-working guy...he's easy to root for.

Top 5 NFL pick. He's that good in my opinion.

I would use my top pick on him. 6'5, 240, 4.3 speed. He looks like he can also catch:eek: Good route running too. He made that backfield look dumb, and slow tonight.

This dude is a freak. I turned the GT-VA game on last night just in time to see him catch that bomb that Ball threw to him, made the move on the safety, and was gone.

Unfortunately, I don't think he'll get much Heisman attention. Do you know how hard it is for a wideout to win the Heisman?

He is a man amongst boys. How can you be higher than a top ten pick?

Do you know how hard it is for a wideout to win the Heisman?

There's usually more of an overall athletic determination, with WR's and DB's. For example, guys like Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard and Rocket Ismail. They could be great as Receivers, but what made them special - in the eyes of the voters - was their ability/versatility to play - and dominate/electrify - at other positions. They could line up at KR, PR, WR, RB and in Woodson's case DB. (All, but Rocket, won Heisman Trophies.)

Now, when looking at QB's, RB's, DT's, DE's and LB's it's more of a numbers game, which is why Ty Detmer beat Rocket Ismail out for the Heisman. (Hell, in his career at BYU, he threw for over 14k yds and 121 tds.) RB's usually need a solid 2000 to 2400 and 20-25 tds, depending on level of competition/conference play. (It also helps to play at high profile colleges.)DT's, DE's and LB's usually need astronomical numbers, mainly in big games. (28 sacks in 1 season. 50 over 3 years.) If a DT played for Penn State and had registered 18 sacks as a Junior, and opted to comeback for his Senior year, and in games against Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa, he had 4 1/2 sacks each....ending the season with 24 sacks and 35 tackles for losses....he'd surely be an excellent candidate to win the Heisman. (Assuming some RB, in the Big 12, doesn't rush for 2400 yds and 28 tds.)

TE's, O-Linemen and Kickers are almost never in the running, regardless of what they do. (Popularity plays a part.) Although, if you guys can recall, Orlando Pace @ Ohio State finished 4th in the voting for the Heisman, in 1996. He started as a true freshman @ OSU, and do you guys remember when he pancaked Simeon Rice 10 times, in a game against Illinios? (rhetorical)

Can anyone refresh my memory on how close LaVar Arrington was to winning the Heisman? Was he even close? I just remember he was an absoloute stud at Penn State, same goes with his fellow Nittany Lion that year Courtney Brown.

Those guys were the reason I enjoyed watching Penn State play whoever and are in large part why the reason I wanted to play ball at PSU.

I received 6 or 7 letters from PSU to play football, and eventually visited the campus. Great tradition. I'm sure it's even better now.

"Joe Pa" is the smallest human being in the world. But he's respected to the highest level, and rightfully so. Great man.

but if you remember correctly Arrington and Penn State I think had some sort of psychological meltdown that year in two late games

He will be a top 3 pick

I remember when Larry Fitzgerald was at Pitt (similar program to GaTech). He wasn't the fastest, but I had never seen a better WR in college, and didn't know if I would for sometime. I have a buddy who graduated from GT and all offseason was hypin CJ...not just normal hype, but "i want to have his children" type hype. I see now it's all deserved, talent and skills like that should not be legal.
