We are anxious to see if our rivals from Missouri are competitive with a fine
Texas team. Any score predictions? I believe Abilene will win the game but
that Rockhurst will hold the differential to 7 points or less.

there seem to be lots of differing opinions as to the eagles strength this season. after graduating all but 3 of their starters, they may be good, but it may take a while. i'll not yet proclaim them ready to defend their victories from last year. and will they beat rockhurst- how could anyone down here have anything more than a biased guess?

Rockhurst is a solid program. I think they lost to evangel last year by a point. I think they will give Abilene as good a game as Evangel did. I pick the team that travels farthest to lose. Rockhurst buy 3.

This should be an interesting matchup. The Eagles did lose a lot on defense. On offense they lost two key starters Kolbey Lewis teams leading ground gainer and Kevin Barnes their #1 receiver. However, offensively they do return one of the states top QB/WR combinations in Taylor Potts and Lyle Leong. They have a new RB that is suppose to be as good if not better than Lewis (time will tell). They are suppose to have improved at TE and their O line is suppose to have a repeat of last year which was pretty good. I hear that they have several young recievers battling for that #2 spot behind Leong and all should recieve plenty of PT. Typically AHS runs a well balanced offense and is proficient at both passing and running the football which makes it difficult to defend them. All coach Warren's teams have done this. So offensively I'm not too worried about these guys being able to put up points.
Defensively is where they lost most of their talent. There really hasn't been a whole lot of talk on the West Texas board about the defense. So I can't speak on whats coming back. I do know that all these guys got major playing time last year as in I'd say over 3/4 of their games the starters were on the bench midway thru the 3rd quarter and in some cases the starters didn't even play the second half. I guess what I'm saying here as while they lost major talent, the talent that is coming back is well experienced.
I say AHS wins by 7 and it may turn out to be whoever has the ball last wins.

I predict a score very much like the Midland Lee/Arvada (CO) Pomona game last year... a game in which Lee won 45-0. Actually, I dont think Rockhurst will be near as weak as Pomona was, but I think the Eagles take this one by double digits. This is the 5th game of the year for AHS so they will be tested and ready to go.
Abilene High 38 - Rockhurst 10

Yeah you wait and see...anyone that can hang with Evangel has got to be tough....I listened to some of that game on the radio and Rockhurst has some good athletes just like Evangel.
Depending on who returns for Rockhurst...if they have senior laden team...they are going to handle Abilene pretty easy.

SuperCentex. you do realize that ECA didnt play Rockhurst last year right?
It was a couple (or more) back. Last year, ECA non districts were Springdale, Longview, TexasHigh, Abilene, and Cretin Duram (minnesota)

Well, I guess that makes Abilene High tough since they not only hung with ECA, but beat them last year.

Not wanting to get you rilled up. But, Rockhurst came to Shreveport, La and played ECA very tough and could of beat them.
ECA came to Dallas and played Abilene on Texas soil. It was a good game that could of gone either way.
Basically, you can probably take all three of those teams on any given Friday night on nuetral fields and get one heck of a game that would come down to the final minutes most of the time.
Abilene better show up with their "A" game when they play Rockhurst. I've seen Rockhurst about 3 times over the last few years on DVD. I would say they remind me alot of Katy. Big Lineman and solid athletes that dont make alot of petty mistakes and our very well coached.

Ya, Rockhurst and the Blue Springs teams of Mizzou are the football powers of Mizzou 95% of the time. Both of those teams are very good and can hold their own with almost any Texas team.
But, they're the top teams in Mizzou by far.
Its kinda like Tulsa Union and Jenks in Oklahoma. Those two Oklahoma teams can hang with any Texas team down for down. In fact I'm surprised that their hasnt been any Tulsa Union and Jenks vs Texas teams so far.

I don't think it will be long before Jenks and Tulsa Union are in the East Texas Classic.
It would make sense since they are only a 4.5 hour drive away from Tyler.

Ya, I think you're right. I believe Houston Madison played Tulsa Union last year and got drilled like 55-10 or something like that in Oklahoma.
I would like to see one of the elite Texas 5A powers play Union or Jenks. It would be cool to have that game in Texas Stadium on a Friday Night and the Tx vs OU game on Saturday.
Kind of like the REL vs Colerain and Texas vs Ohio St weekend this year.
Maybe next season when Ohio st comes to Austin. We can get another Ohio High school team come play in Austin against maybe Katy, Woodlands, Lufkin next season. I think both Lufkin and the Woodlands will be loaded next year season because they have alot of good juniors this season.

I would like to see both Jenks and Tulsa Union invited to the East Texas Classic next year and have a double-header with Lufkin and Tyler Lee. You know that would put some fans in the stands..especially since Jenks and Union are so close to Tyler. When Union and Jenks play at Skully they sell the place out!
